What should I have for a cook out tomorrow night?

Some friends are coming from OOT tomorrow night.  I want to grill since they have a LO the same age as DD and I'm sure he'll be wound up from being in teh car a good bit of the day and I think its supposed to be less unberabley hot.  I'm working from home tomorrow until lunch time and then I have a doctor's appointment so I can go to the store afterward.

We could do burgers and dogs, but I'd like to do something more interesting, but not very time consuming.

  • I would do burgers and do fancier appetizers. Mmmhh and strawberry mojitos my newest addiction!

I'm with Mary. You could always do chicken too.

  • we just did chicken kebabs last weekend and it reminded me how much I like marinated, skewered grilled meat. So good!

we alternated: marinated chicken breast/mushrooms/shrimp/onions, but of course any variation is good.

  • I would do grilled shrimp for an appetizer. Or if to do prep work ahead of time ina's roasted shrimp is excellent, and you can do them early in the day, let cool and refridgerate. Bruschetta is easy and yummy. Fresh fruit with dip. Mozz/tomato skewers.
  • Kebabs for sure - my favorite grilled food! You can do chicken, steak and shrimp for variety and so many vegetables you can put on there. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I like Mary's ideas about fun appetizers, too. A watermelon fruit bowl is always delicious plus fun to serve!

  • what about some kind of sausage to be different...with peppers and onions...and then stick with hamburgers or hotdogs for the simpler side

I was going to suggest kebabs as well, probably because I just bought a ton of skinless boneless chix thighs.  I also love grilled pineapple.

Upside of kebabs w/ little people is that the food is already cut up for them.
