Re: Rach or Other D&R-ers

  • I haven't, but I've considered doing my backsplash. The only thing I couldn't figure out is cutting around outlets. Don't you need a tile cutter? Other than that, it seems pretty easy.
  • from what i've seen on the DIY channel, you can use a tile cutter, or you can pull the tile off of the mesh and just use clippers to cut the mesh.

i was planning to use the mesh sheets with tile already attached rather than placing the actual tile myself using spacers and stuff. thats too difficult.

our LR and DR are green with white trim, and the kitchen is going to be blue. so im thinking a blue, green, tan and white tile backplash would look really great. but do you thinkk thats too matchy-matchy?

Oh ok! I think that should work then...as long as the tiles line up flush to the outlet. I've seen some grids that aren't flush on the edges if that makes sense.

I think those colors sound good together! What color is your countertop?

  • We've done big tile (with spacers) and glass tile with the mesh backing.  The stuff with the mesh backing is super easy.  And you can just grout over everything and wipe off thetile with a sponge.

And I think the color combo for the tile sounds very pretty.  I don't think it's too matchy-matchy at all.

  • i think typically the tile is flush, its when you get into stones that they sometimes stick out from the mesh. at least thats what i've seen. i havent shopped around too much though TBH.

our countertops are like a grayish green with black and tan flecks in them, if that makes sense. we're going to replace the countertops though. we havent decided what color yet though. im going to do the tile after the new countertops are put in so im not quite ready to do it yet, im just thinking about it for now.

our cabinets are very light colored oak.

  • If the tiles are small, you can get away with just using a pair of clippers. If they are larger, you may need to rent a wet saw to prevent them from breaking when you cut them.

Ditto that using ones that are on a mesh grid are super easy to use. Spacers are not bad, just more time consuming.

This. We used the ones like you're describing on our fireplace. they were so easy. The colors sound great!
