Has anyone been to Grand Turk?

We are going there on a cruise next month.  At first I was excited because we've never been, but after doing some research is appears that there is NOTHING there.  I have read a bunch of stuff on cruisecritic.com, I was just curious if any of you have been.

  • I loved grand turk. We stopped there on our cruise, and we went on a glass bottom boat ride and a snorkeling trip. Some of the most beautiful snorkeling I've ever done! We didn't do much in the way of exploring the city though.

I went horseback riding on the beach there, booked through the ship, but I think the company was Chukka or something like that? It was nice b/c not only was the horseback riding awesome, but as they drove us around the island to the stables, we also got a little tour and they told us a lot about the island.

But if you can't find an excursion you like, you can always just hang out at the beach right off the ship. There's a Margaritaville right there - yes, touristy, but IMO, any day sitting on the beach with a margarita is not a bad day. :)

But yeah, there's really nothing to do in port. A few shops, but nothing else really other than Margaritaville.

  • I have heard that they have amazing snorkling, but we (I) don't like to snorkle.  How long ago were you there?

  • Carnival does have the horseback riding and a few other excursions, but nothing that we are too interested in. I think our plan is to just try to explore on our own and spend some time at the Margaritaville that you mentioned.  The swim-up bar looks fun :)  I also found a place called Jack's Shack that everyone seems to rec.  Did you happen to go there?

No, I didn't go to Jack's Shack - after our horseback riding we just had time for a quick lunch/drink at Margaritaville, and we did that since it was so close to the ship. I say just treat Grand Turk as an eat/drink/enjoy the beautiful beach and swimup bar kind of day! It sounds glorious. I'm jealous just thinking about it. ;)
