Early Intervention

Hi ladies,

L had her 15 month check-up today and our ped. had some concerns because L is not walking, hasn't taken steps on her own yet, and is still having trouble pulling herself up past her knees. He recommended that we contact an EI specialist to try and get her evaluated so that she can get started on PT.

He gave us a list of specialists but they are all in MA and only service that area, so I am trying to figure what the best place is to call. We live in Cranston and it looks like Meeting Street, Hasbro and Trudeau all service this area.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Is there someone else we should call?

TIA!

Re: Early Intervention

  • i've only ever worked with Meeting Street, but if I were you I would call them all and see who can get her evaluated the quickest....sometimes it can take a while.

There is also the Groden Center, but I'll have to look that up because I'm not sure if they do EI.

I have never heard anything negative about Early Intervention. It is a wonderful program :)

  • It looks like the Groden Center is geared more towards autism so scratch that suggestion!

  • We went through Trudeau center for EI.  Actually called EI and found out it was Trudeau who was doing the evaluation and paying for the services when they were at our house (2nd time we did EI for speech).  First time was for OT and we went to a couple diff places for the evals before eventually getting therapy at a center on Narragansett Blvd (just as you enter providence).  I don't remember where we went b/c they were in random places that I had no clue where I was going, but were all in Prov.  When you call EI they lead you to the specialists in RI.  I would do this before contacting the ones in MA.
  • for my final project i've been visiting different sites around rhode island, many of them have EI.  Meeting center is amazing.  I would try to call them first, but i believe there is a waiting list.  I have a list of sites at work, but im not there until monday. if i remember i can see if there are any other places that are not mentioned.  Does Sargent Center have EI??? I can't remember...
  • Camille was in EI for gross motor delay.  Unfortunately we're in MA so where we go wouldn't work for you.  We absolutely love EI.  Cam has made so much progress in such a short amount of time and I'm sure it'll be the same for L. If you have any questions about our experience, I'm happy to answer them.

     Good luck!

  • My DD just got approved for EI last week.  We called Meeting Street first but there was a waiting list so we are using Family Resources in Woonsocket, so far I'm happy with them.  Not sure if they cover Cranston or not.
