But then again, I couldn't bring myself to touch the bug to take it out of the kid's mouth, so I'm no use.

I'll be the gross combo breaker and say that while I wouldn't put a Cicada on MY tongue, I don't know that I'd freak out if DD put one on hers. My grossed-out-by-things-kids-put-in-their-mouths threshold is pretty high.
Then again, I haven't been in the situation, and it's possible that the sight might give me the screaming heebie-jeebies.
