Anyone a bank teller? I have my first interview...
I applied for a teller position at a bank right down the street from my house and I have an interview on Monday. This is my first interview in 7 years-- ugh! I feel sick! Anyway, I've never worked in a bank before--- anyone know what I should expect?? (at the interview and the job if I was to get it)
Thanks!
Re: Anyone a bank teller? I have my first interview...
I was hired to be a teller like 6ish years ago but I don't remember what they asked me. I ended up going through the training and then I had to quit because in the interview when I gave my days off they said it wouldn't be an issue and then once they placed me in the branch I was going to be working in the manager denied my time off and it was for a wedding that I was a BM in. I thought I was really going to like it there too.
I would just focus on being responsible with money and confidentiality and obvs customer service. Maybe even talk about sales experience (if you have any), since banks like to try to sell their customers new products. GL!!
My mum has been in banking for close to 25 years. She mostly likes it but there can be a lot of inter-office drama/politics, especially in small branches. As the newest person at the branch you will likely get the worst hours, probably being scheduled for more of the weekend hours than others. Also, if you request specific days off and they conflict with a more established employees requested days off, you will more than likely be denied.
I've never been a teller myself but my sister has also worked in banks. Mostly what I think they look for is good customer service, a willingness to learn, and as few differences (money that turns up missing when you settle your drawer at the end of each day) as humanly possible. And the banks my mum has worked for also had to deal with secret shoppers. People higher up in the bank that call and pretend to be customers to ensure that employees at each branch are answering the phones correctly (usually saying a spiel about how great that bank is) and trying to sell customers new services.
