House/Money Vent

Ok, I just have to vent. I am so stressed out right now over our house and money. I feel like we are the only people that have so many problems with our house. It's like one thing after another and it's really starting to get to me.

So it started with our hot water heater. Ok, no big deal. We replaced a few parts and now it's working ok. Then this fall our house siding literally started falling off the house, forcing us to get new siding. That's when we took out our first home equity loan for $10,000. Siding was the last thing we wanted to buy!

Then we had a leak from a pipe that came down into our walls, ruining the drywall in an entire bedroom closet and our brand new hard wood floors that we just had installed a few months prior.

Our basement project, although getting better, started out as a complete disaster. Long story short, the paint peeled away from the walls, then we decided to replace the paneling with drywall. We since got carpet installed and switched out our washer and dryer and had a freaking leak all over our brand new carpet which we just spent $1500 on. Ugh!

So, our most recent happening was this week when we found out that our home owners insurance won't cover the damage to our air conditioning unit. It took them 2 weeks to tell us this and I've been suffering in a house that's always in the 80s-90s. So now we have to take out yet another loan for 4-5k to get a new one.

We have lots of friends with houses and this stuff seriously never happens to them. Are we plagued with bad house luck or am I just blowing it out of proportion because I'm pregnant and irritable and hot as hell?

Re: House/Money Vent

  • Ugh, I feel like home ownership is big expense/project after another. It's Murphy's law that some crazy expensive repair is needed at the worst possible time.  It's the worst.

With that being said, I think you and your husband have had some pretty horrific luck. Here's hoping that this is the last of your unexpected house expenses for a long time!

  • It sounds like you have one had thing after another with your house lately!  I do find that that is usually how it works with us too(and a lot of of homeowners), but it seems like this just is terrible timing for you as well, so sorry for all the additional stress.
  • Ugh, I can feel your pain.  We have had small stretches like that, and sometimes I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.  And of course, being pregnant magnifies everything, I'm sure.  I'm so sorry to hear about this all, vent away if that is how we can best help you.  When it rains, it pours, and it sucks.  Here's hoping that your luck will change.

  • Homeownership is expensive and we have had  stuff come up at the worst time, but not like you described. I am sorry that is happening now. Hopefully your luck will get better.

  • Aw I'm so sorry! I don't think you're blowing things out of proportion at all! That is a lot of things going wrong all at once:(

I hope things get better soon so you can just sit back and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

  • So sorry, Kristen. You have definitely been compounded with house problems lately. I know it sucks, but try not to stress out too much. I know that's easier said that done, too. We're still getting the run around from our insurance company about all of our house damage. Meanwhile, everyone in our neighborhood is getting new roofs and fences. Extrememly frustrating! Hopefully, things will be looking up for you soon. At least, you're getting this out of the way before the baby arrives.
  • Oh the joys of owning a home !

I'm so sorry that everything is happening at once, though, and they are things that can't be put off fixing.
