Warning, this is long...
I woke up in a great mood this morning excited that it was Friday. I left our apartment and noticed my car felt a little weird but thought maybe it was just me or because it was low on gas. I drove to the gas station, filled up for $55 which stinks on it's own, and then went to leave and my car wouldn't start. I had the mechanic at the gas station try to jump me a few times but that didn't work. Jason was already at work and cannot have his cell phone on him during the day, so I was on my own. I called the place where I bought the car (Fitz) where I have a buyer protection plan which includes free towing within 25 miles and free rental cars. I got my car towed and road along in the tow truck to Fitz (bad day to wear heels lol). I dropped it off, got a rental car, and was on my way to work. I figured the morning started off crappy but everything would be alright, that it was probably something simple like needing a new battery.
I get to work about an hour late (no biggie, I had called my boss and let her know), and then about 30 minutes later I get a call from Fitz. It's going to cost me $887 to fix! FML. Apparently the spark plugs and wires are shot, the mass air flow sensor is dead, the throtle body has to be cleaned, and my thermostat sensor is broken (which I knew about a while ago but was too cheap to get it fixed). The thermostat doesn't have to get fixed but it's $150 to do it and I figured if I was going to be paying over $700 for the other stuff, might as well just have them fix the thermostat while it's in there. Oh, and I had an appointment to get my oil changed there tomorrow morning (ironic, huh) so that's included in the amount too. $887 sucks. Money is tight for us but I had been trying to save $25-$50 every paycheck to go towards a new apartment when we want to move in December; I had finally gotten our 'new apartment fund' to $950 and was all excited about it, but now this totally clears that out. They are fixing it today and said I can pick it up tonight after work. I've only had this car a year and it only has 60K on it (it was used when I bought it).
I was all proud of myself for taking care of things all by myself (trying to jump it, getting it towed, dropping it off, getting a rental car), but now I just feel like crying. I keep telling myself that it could have been worse; I could have had it happen while I was 35 miles from home at work instead of a mile from home and Fitz so then I'd have a big towing bill; it could have been the engine or transmission which would have costs me thousands of dollars instead of it being under a thousand. I also keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason. Maybe if my car hadn't broken down this morning, I would have been in a bad accident on my way to work during that hour. Maybe this was the universes way of protecting me from something that might have happened had I driven to work as normal. Life needs to give me a break though; the last 8 months have been very hard on me for numerous reasons and I've tried to stay so positive, but mannnnnnn, I've had about enough of it.
Thanks for letting me vent; I feel a bit better now that I've wrote it all out.

Re: FML :(
Gosh I KNOW that sucks, but try to look at the bright side! At least you have the $850 to fix it, right?

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermThat's a very good point, Tisha. It'd be awful if I couldn't afford to get it fixed or had to go to my parents and ask to borrow the money.
aww xan! I'm sorry your friday is off to bad start! but like Tisha said at least you have it to spend to fix it, and don't have to put it on a card or ask family for help. Hope your day gets better!!!
This is exactly what I think when things don't go as planned!
Cheer up... things will get better!

Thanks ladies! I appreciate the support.
I got a call from the guy at Fitz saying they found out the engine cooling sensor is broke too and they have to order the part so now the earliest I'll get my car back is Monday. He said it usually costs $100 more but he is going to see what he can do for me and try to include it in the original quote, or maybe just add $25 extra. I'm thankful to have a rental car that I don't have to pay for though. The whole situation has just made me tired; I am thinking a nap is very necessary when I get home...after I make my $320 car payment tonight....grr what a slap in the face that is.
