is anyone a real estate agent?

Can you tell me a little about why you like your job and if doing your job for only 10-15 hours a week is possible if you don't expect to make $100,000 a year?

Not an agent but we're looking.

My agent does visits from 4-9 on weekdays and then works 1.5 days on the weekends (she tries to keep one full day for family but that doesn't always work out, particularly during the busy season). She also does paper work and follow ups through the day as well.

I don't think she makes anywhere near 100,000 a year.

  • do you know how many people she is working with?
  • I am a real estate agent and to be perfectly honest no I don't think it can be done.  I think everyone starts out thinking that they can start part-time and work into it, or just maintain it at the part-time level, but it doesn't happen.  I probably work more then I would at a full time day job some days of the week.  I do time block and make sure I carve out time with my family, but sometimes you just have to go and that takes its toll.

Even if you did just one transaction a month that wouldn't be able to cover the fees associated with keeping your license active...so you start doing more, but the more you make the more you have to put away for taxes...it just goes on and on.

And yes you can do it and make a lot of money, or a little money.  I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of agents are making over $100,000 a year...a few listings and a few buyers and it really isn't that hard.
