Teachers and anyone else with career specific resumés

Do you break your resum? chronologically and detail what you've done in each job, or do you categorize it into career specific categories (Like: commitment to students/leadership in learning communities)?

I'm in the process of redoing my resum? for this curriculum leader position and can't decide which way to go... I've never done the latter before, but am thinking that it's maybe time to start leaning away from the all purpose resum?.

Re: Teachers and anyone else with career specific resumés

  • I've always done my resume in chronological order because that is how it is normally done in law.  B also does his resume this way for his field (investment research).  I have another friend who works for the federal government, and she does hers in the latter way you describe.  I think it all depends how it normally is done in your field.

  • Yeah... I have no idea how it's done in my field (at least not for leadership positions). Stick out tongue I haven't had to write a resum? for teaching since 2008... all my jobs have kinda fallen into my lap.

I saw a career specific one for the first time this week and that threw me for a loop!

  • I'm a teacher, and mine is chronological. Teaching Experience and Work Experience were actually separate, just because I only had student teaching, subbing, and my undergrad practicums as experience. If I had more teaching experience, I may have left off my other jobs. I kept them only because they related to working with kids, helped with my references, and showed that I could keep a job for an extended period.
