Borders in Downtown Crossing closing
Link to Universal Hub
I'm bummed. I buy a majority of my books at Harvard Book Store or online, but I always liked walking around that Borders, and I almost never left without buying something. My husband used to go there all the time for greeting cards, too. The rent there must be phenomenal, though. And the giant pit* can't be helping matters.
Now there's really no reason to go over there, except Stoddard's. And Macy's, I guess, but that Macy's gives me hives. It's just too overwhelming.
*sidenote - my husband and I always bust into Mouse Rat (formerly Scarecrow Boat) when we walk by there.

Re: Borders in Downtown Crossing closing
Oh yeah, I forgot about Eddie Bauer. And I go there all the time, heh. And I miss Filene's, too. And the Basement - it was terrifying in there, but I got some d*mn good deals.
I'd hoped this location would make it after the others close. I prefer Borders to B&N for some reason. I wonder if they'll end up being solely online after a while?
This!! I loooove that Borders. This makes me really sad
I'm less sad about Borders and more sad about closing of the Curious George bookstore in Harvard Square. CG was the one store I have to go to when I go over to Harvard Square. I always find unique books there that I can use in my classroom. So sad to see such a great, small business close.
Whaaaat??? I didn't know about this
I always buy my nieces' Christmas presents there. They have great stuff. Harvard Square used to be one of my favorite places but so many great business have left in the last few years.
Oh no, this makes me super sad, too
Harvard Square is so different now than it was just 10-15 years ago. There are hardly any of the old stores or restaurants left. I've watched a lot of old favorites disappear to be replaced by big chains and such. Sigh.
