House and job follow up - edited with update

For the house...we haven't heard anything either way about the inspection.  We knew that we might not know until Saturday, but I just hate the waiting.

About the job...all my co-workers seem to understand but HR doesn't even see what the problem is.  They keep saying 'yeah, you're permanent, don't worry' but that's NOT how the letter reads to me.  Honestly, this temporary position is open-ended (it's says anticipated to last a year...they could drag it out) so my concern is that it could drag on and what happens if I get pregnant at some point, do I have a job to go back to?

I was feeling so overwhelmed and stressed about the job issue I thought I was going to cry.  I did talk to the HR lady at the last minute and while she doesn't seem to understand what the issue is, she's willing to make any changes to the letter that I need them to to get me to sign it.  She told me to think of it over the weekend and let them know what I need in there to make me feel comfortable.  So that makes me feel better.

Thank you ladies for the positive thoughts.

ETA - we got a call last night that the house is SOLD and we will get a sold sign up on the lawn tomorrow!  Woohoo!  Closing on this place is August 17th and we are going to get the closing changed on the house we are buying for a few days or a week before that.

I was feeling so overwhelmed and stressed about the job issue I thought I was going to cry.

I'd been feeling like that and finally talked to my HR person today, too--she finally seemed to get it and I feel better, but it took a while. Good luck to you and I'm glad that that they finally understand your concerns and it seems like they'll act accordingly. In the end, you need to sign the deal that works best for you and your career. It's super that HR is willing to work with you.

    Continued positive thoughts.

  • Continued good luck on the house and as far as the job goes, you need to make sure you are safe and secure before you sign the deal. I know HR's don't always get the minor details of an offer, but they can certainly mean the world, to the real world.

  • Thoughts and prayers that both of these things work out for you. Like pp said, make sure to get the changes in the letter that will make you feel comfortable. It's a small detail to them, but has a huge impact on your peace of mind.

  • Congrats on selling the house!

I'll keep sending positive vibes that the job thing works out too! Sounds like it'll be OK but you have every right to make sure of it, on paper.

  • YAY YAY YAY on the house!  And I think you should definitely insist on them changing the letter--if they don't seem to care either way, you may as well protect yourself whether HR thinks it is unnecessary or not!

  • Good luck on the house!

And, I think that sounds positive on the job front - give them the wording you want and see how it works out!

  • Congrats on the house!  And I think it's great that HR is willing to work with you on the wording of the letter so that you are protected.

  • Congrats on the house! Such great news. I also suggest you get the wording changed. She can always say you misinterpreted the wording, or if she leaves, the new person may interpret the letter the way you do now and that leaves you vulnerable in your job. Better to get it changed.

  • Thanks, ladies!  It's been nice to have people support me on the HR letter issue. I feel bad being 'the greasy wheel' but I have to keep telling myself that I'm protecting our livelihood.
