job app question

DH is going has a job interview this week and has to fill out a formal application. How far back should his employment go? His resume lists his experience for about the past 8 years (during and after college). He went to college in his late 20s though and had his own design/digital art business before that and worked at a grocery store for health insurance. His business and the grocery store aren't at all related to the job he is interviewing for, but he did that for about 10 years before he went to back to college so he wasn't sure if he should include since it would show he wasn't bumming around or if should just stick to post-college experience that is relevant to the position.

Yeah, usually it specifies. If it asks for a "complete job history -- use additional pages if needed" then he needs to list every job. If it only asks for 5 years or something, then follow that.
It doesn't specify
How many jobs did he has in those years? Do any of the jobs not apply to the job is he seeking? Are we talking retail jobs that he will be including?
I had a job in college that applies to my career and my first job out of college applies to it as well, but I leave them off.
