I had my interview on Thursday. The recruiter asked me to call him after the interview which I tried several times but never heard back. I emailed him on Friday also and didn't hear back and now I am thinking maybe it didn't go well?
I met with the person I was supposed to be interviewing and he seemed very nice, although he seemed very nervous, more than me. He was constantly sweating and unsure of what to ask or say. At the time, I was thinking I am supposed to be the nervous one, why is he so nervous? I answered his questions and I thought it was going great. He asked about my past work experiences and typical interview questions, no behavioral questions this time. He seemed like a nice person, despite his nervousness.
Then he took me to meet his boss, and the big boss was very distracted and I just don't know how to describe it. He wouldn't look at me when we tried to talk and kept playing with paperwork on his desk and it was like I was a nuisance to his day or something. He didn't have interview questions for me, he asked me "well you've been unemployed 3 months, how is the job market? how many interviews have you had? have you had an offer yet?...have you worked with a staffing agency before or is this your first time??" stuff like that....
After talking with him, I honestly thought it's going bad and he wasn't interested at all to talk with me. But the first guy who walked me out said "that was a nice interview" and I said how I really like the company and think the job is a great match....and he said "i have no doubt that you'll do great.
The recruiter didn't respond to my phone calls or email and honestly I don't know how i feel about the interview...
Sorry if this reads as a vent. I just hope I had some answers. sigh.
Re: feel unsure about my interview
The recruiter said to call him when I get out of the interview. I called several times, it went to his answering machine so I left a message and then emailed him on Friday. It's not uncommon for him to totally ignore me if he doesn't want to talk with me. He only calls 3 times in an hour if he wants to talk with me.
Blackdiamond, I also had an interview a month ago (5 hour long interview) where at the end they told me they'll let me know either way and the lady walking me out had said "I feel really good about this interview, I'll be in touch with you in a couple of days" but I never heard back. I followed up and still didn't hear back.
This process is making me a cynical person I think. I'm learning to not read into anything an interviewer says until an offer comes. "I feel good about this interview", "you did great", "we'll be in touch" mean nothing if you don't ever hear back from them.
You interviewed Thursday. It's only Monday. Give the recruiter some time. He may be having a hard time getting feedback from the people you interviewed with. Give it a few days and try to touch base with him then.
I hate being the interviewer, and it sounds like this guy does too. It's no reflection on you. When you haven't done it much, you're not sure what questions to ask, how to fill the allotted time, etc.
The big boss may have had a gazillion things going on in his day causing his distraction. Again, no reflection on you.
Did you send TY notes?

I'm not blaming the interviewer, he is a human being and probably not experienced that's why he was nervous. Internally though I was thinking, relax, you're in a safe position, you're making me nervous! My husband interviews most candidates that apply to his work and he always tells me the interviewer does play a decent role on how the interview goes.
I honestly when I was walked into the big boss's office I thought a deal had gone bad or he had a bad morning before I even sat down. I hope you're right and it's not a reflection of me, but it still felt really awkward because I could have stared at the wall the whole time- he never looked at me. I know the interview doesn't weigh much for him but landing one is a great deal for me...As I said previously, he asked me about the job market and where I have had my other interviews and whether I had an offer and about the company... So next time, how should I handle these questions? because this time I was caught off guard that he?s actually asking me these and answered them honestly, I wasn't diplomatic about them.
