unemployment question

I thought maybe some of you ladies can answer this question.

I was laid off beginning of March and started receiving unemployment benefits that month. I had my baby May 31st and of course haven't claimed weekly benefits since then. I know that I am supposed to inform unemployment that I'm not able to work at this point. My question is, if I do, would I then lose my benefits for good?

TIA ladies!

Re: unemployment question

  • Contact the employment office there.  Every state is different.
IUI - BFP! Baby boy born still - August 2012
    IVF - BFP - miscarriage June 2013
    FET - BFN
    FET - BFN
    Switched clinics
IVF with PGD - three embryos created, all healthy - July 2014
FET - transferred two embryos (boy and girl) - Nov 2014 - BFP!
    Baby Boy born July 2015

  • I don't know of anyone who had been in this situation. I agree with the PP about contacting the unemployment office and soon because you may have risked any future benefits by not informing them sooner.

  • When I was receiving unemployment, there was a box to check that said, "were you too ill or otherwise incapacitated to have accepted work during any of the days this week?" and if so, I had to enter how many days I was too sick to have worked if I'd had work to do.  If, for 6 weeks, I continually checked that I was too ill/incapacitated, I'm not sure if they would've continued sending me forms.

It's definitely best to contact the unemployment office.  It can be so tough to get someone on the phone, but maybe e-mail will work.

  • This may be cheating the system and I def think you should call the unemployment office.  When I was in Germany for 10 days last fall I still claimed unemployment, I was going to put I was on vacation but DH said I shouldn't do that, if I had then i wouldn't have gotten paid.  And my sister in law was laid off when she was 9 months PG, she was still claiming and filling her unemployment the entire time (even right after her baby was born) she did finally get a part time job though months after he was born.
