Hi ladies. DH and I are thinking of taking our first real family vacation this Fall. Our DD will be about 16 months old at the time. It will be just the three of us. I was hoping to go to Yosemite, Sequoia and Monterey( I know this might not fall in your location, it just seemed like you had an active board and close by). Do you have any suggestions of kid friendly activities or places to visit in the area? We just started the planning process so we are not set on anything and open to ideas. Most likely it will be the middle of October... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Family Vacation?
We just took C to Yosemite last month (about 17 months old) and had a great time. If you can swing it I'd go for at least 2 nights to help make the drive in (about 4 hours from the Bay Area) worth it. On our full day there we rented bikes with a baby bike trailer and saw the valley that way which worked out really well. C had never been in a trailer before, but she liked it pretty well and napped in the trailer while we biked. We stayed in the lodge at Curry Village (like a motel).
Monterey has a fabulous aquarium, I'm not sure if 16 months is too young to appreciate it or not, but I'm sure you and DH would love it (haven't taken C there yet). My family always stayed at Asilomar, which is a conference ground, but usually has single room vacancies, you can walk to the beach, and includes breakfast. And has paths etc for LO's to walk around, see some wildlife etc. I haven't stayed there recently though, but it used to be family friendly and well priced for the location.
Hope you have a great trip!

Book now if you're going to try to stay in Yosemite. That place books up fast! There's plenty of places to stay just outside the park though.
Sequoia/Kings Canyon is really nice, less crowded and has some nice options. There's places to stay in Grant Grove there and the walk around the big trees is easy. Buck Rock fire lookout has a spectacular view and is worth checking out. Hume Lake might be fun for the kiddo. If you've got the time and you're up for the drive, Cedar Grove canyon is gorgeous. Actually, it might be snowed in by October.
