Laundry Question

Hi

I have light colored sheets on our bed with little green and turquoise circles all over them...my husband sweats in his sleep.  So there's gotten to be this husband-print on our sheets.  They feel kinda greasy over there on his side, and there's a darkening of the sheets (ew).  I've washed them in warm water with Tide High Efficiency, and the Tide stain booster.  I've washed them alone, so there's optimal water to sheet ratio.  I just don't know what to do to get these sheets clean!  Thoughts?

Re: Laundry Question

  • Sounds more like an oil problem.  Does your husband take a shower before bed?  If not, maybe that would help.

It might not hurt to try washing the sheets with vinegar or pretreating with a vinegar spray then wash as you normally would.  But if the stain doesn't come out, it might just be better to throw the sheets away.  We only have white sheets and wash in hot water weekly, no matter what.  By the end of the week, our sheets look a little dingy, but once laundered, look good as new.

  • Thanks!  I think I will start over with new white sheets.  He usually showers before we go to bed, but it still seems to get dingy.  I wash our bedding once a week too.  I'll try some vinegar on these before I pitch them out though.  I have nothing to loose, right?  Thanks for your help!
  • White sheets are also good because if you get a stain, you can just bleach them  without ruining them.  Good luck!

  • Try arm & hammer washing soda (or whatever brand you find near the detergents) it's cut the amount soap we use in half, it's only 2.99 where we live, I have been amazed at the way we can use less soap and more stuff comes out. Even sheets that haven't been washed for a while (just sitting in the linen closet) don't get that "closet smell"
