I really think I need to move to Marin County, CA.

I was just looking at the CA voting map by county to see what the results were for the props, and I agreed with that county on everything but high speed rail. Plus I love Marin County, its beautiful.

In Orange County where I live I agreed with the majority on a few things, but they were certainly not the big items like 4 & 8 and the president. I really feel like I fish out of water where we live. It stinks. I love Orange County becuase this is where I grew up and this is where my family lives & it really is a beautiful place to live, but man, I certainly dont fit in. I really feel this after seeing that almost 58% of the people here voted Yes on 8. Ack.

I have no problem living around conservatives, dont get me wrong. Its the bigotry and anti-choice crowd that gets me riled up. Im going to feel like flipping off everyone I live around today.

Re: I really think I need to move to Marin County, CA.

  • Then you should move. Wink

This isn't exactly the same, but a couple months ago, we moved to a completely different are in our metro and it's like night & day. We used to live in the heart of suburbia. Now we live in the city. Our neighborhood voted Obama like 75/25 and Franken over Coleman like 80/20. It's fabulous. We fit in.

Then, I go visit my parents in their little conservative northern MN town and feel like everyone is pointing and talking about me behind my back. I remember when I was in middle school, the high school hired a new orchestra director and everyone was all up in arms because the rumor was he was an Atheist and we couldn't have someone like that teaching our kids. Suffice to say, that attitude remains.

  • Dev, where do you live?  I was born and raised in Mission Viejo, and my entire family is still there.  When I was 17, I knew that the OC was not the place for me so I went to college in VT.  Then I lived in NYC, San Fran, CT, and now Seattle.  Trying a variety of places out gave me a really good idea of what values - and climate - mattered to me. Seattle is the perfect blend of west coast values with some smatterings of east coast seasonality.  I highly recommend it!

(and at least you have In-n-Out burger... that makes up for something!)

Seriously??? I was born and raised in Mission Viejo too!!! We lived really close to the lake (and my parents still do). I went to Trabuco Hills High School :) Small world!

I live in Foothill Ranch now (Lake Forest), so not too far from home.

I really do love Orange County for many reasons, and its a great place to raise a family. (Great school system, very very safe)

  • Dev that's so funny!  I was in the Capo school district, but my parents wanted to send me to MVHS.  We were closer, but because of the wonky districting, I couldn't get a transfer.  So, I went to boarding school outside of Santa Barbara.  While that was a great experience, I do think my parents underestimated the quality of education I could have had at a public school.

The area IS a great place to be a kid - though I wish it wasn't so overdeveloped.  The little open land that is left is so beautiful.  I hope they preserve some (i.e. - don't build another toll road through the middle of it!!).

Man, I really want in-n-out now.  damnit!
