Aldi's?

Does anyone shop there?  I'm in need of lowering my grocery bill.  There are some items I'm not willing to compromise on brand, and will continue to shop at Hyvee and Trader Joe's for, but there are some I don't care.  I already use coupons and shop the sale and meal plan, and we get most of our meat from our parents.  But staples/canned/boxed goods still add up.  I don't want to run all over town if it's not going to save me much.

Re: Aldi's?

  • If it helps, Aldi and TJ's are owned by the same company and get a lot of there stuff the same places, Aldi just doesn't carry organic. We DOT NOT and WILL NEVER buy meat from Aldi, but everything else is fair game. Their fresh produce is usually amazing! Cheese and milk are WAY cheaper there. Just don't fall in love with anything because they may not have it next time. We get all of our whole wheat pasta there, sauces, cream of's, cans of fruit, snacks, cereal...pretty much anything! Right now they have a raspberry vinegrette I have been in love with! I am a little more trusting of Aldi after my brother-in-law used to be a regional manager and told me where stuff comes from and all that. He also told me not to get meat or fish from there...the frozen stuff may be ok, but not what they call the 'fresh' stuff.

Thanks!  Luckily my IL's buy whole cows/pigs, so we only have to buy fresh chicken and other meat occasionally.  :)  I'll have to attempt a solo trip there sometime.  Boys just eat too much!

  • I was just thinking of hitting Aldi's tomorrow for things like milk, cheese, cereal and bread.

  • I really like the Fit & Active brand from Aldi's! They have these frozen meatballs, that are turkey meat, SO good, and El loves them for dinners! They also have bags of lettuice for cheap! Like $0.60 a bag. I do like their fresh produce, when I did El's birthday party I bought all my fruit and veggies from there, it was great! H loves their chips, I like their milk, and eggs, very low price! I actually saw, they have a Kashi style cereal, that IS made by Kashi!, just $3 cheaper! Smile
