Furbaby Friday.

We haven't done this for awhile.  What's new with the furry friends in your life?

Re: Furbaby Friday.

  • My cats are "inside cats" but we let them out on our deck when the weather is nice.  There are no stairs from our deck and it's up relatively high, so they can't really get down.  They love it out there.

We usually try to keep a pretty good eye on them when they're out there -- just in case -- but often leave them unattended for a few minutes at a time.  No big deal.  They don't do much but lay around and chirp at the birds.

Yesterday, though, I went to check on Zoey who was out there and I couldn't find her.  Then I peaked over the edge and she was on the grass below.  She had jumped.  After four years of hanging out on the deck, she finally decided to try her luck.  She was totally fine, but now I'm bummed.  Now that she knows she can jump, I'm sure she'll do it again.  So I guess we can't let her out there anymore.  Sad

Houston the dog is doing well.  She's still my little snuggle bug.  She LOVES laying on the floor in the baby's room.  I'm not sure if it's because it's carpeted, or what but if I go and sit in the rocking chair and read a magazine or something she'll plop down for a nap.  She doesn't usually do that on the rug in the living room or on the carpet in "her" room (guest/storage/dog crate room).  I hope she enjoys hanging out in baby's room when she gets here too.

She's also shedding like CRAZY!  I brush her regularly, but she still sheds like no other.  I could sweep and vaccuum and she'll walk through and 20 min later you won't even be able to tell I did it.  GAH! This time of year is tough in keeping the floors hair free.

  • Oh, the shedding... I love Greta so very much, but her summer shed is terrible enough for me to never had a double coated dog again.  So far, Willa's enjoying the daily brushes, but she's going to get bored of it quick.

Last night we had pizza for dinner.  We were in the living room, watching a movie.  The kids were eating off of their art trays and were on the floor.  Henry got up to wash his hands, and Arlo came out of nowhere, grabbed the 1/2 slice on Henry's tray and ran under the table.  It was so out of character, I laughed.

  • Gandalf is an inside kitty as well, but we give her supervised visits ouside, which she loves! Kasa, I've always been jealous of your deck arrangement as it requires a less watchful eye. Bummer that Zoey got brave. Gandalf is laying on my lap, trying to eat the beads on my shirt. I'm grateful for the cooler day as she doesn't snuggle when it's much hotter than this.
  • Love the kitties on the deck Kasa!  Ours enjoy being out there too, when we let them.  It might have something to do with the bird's nest full of baby birdies under our deck that keeps them interested.

The dogs are good too - Toby has enjoyed the cool down and now that I can run outside some more, Gordie has been joining me and is a great running buddy.  And I swear everytime I pet G, about 800 thousand peices of fur fall out - no matter how much I brush him it seems never ending.

  • Harriet stopped eating just before Memorial Day and ended up having to get tests & abx, & special food.  It hasn't been very fun.  She's 14 though and we know she won't live forever.  She's doing better now, but we don't know how long we'll get to    have her.
