Hi ladies! Some of you were talking about these smoothies last week, but yesterday when I researched old posts, I couldn't find the conversation.
I think I am going to give them a try. Thinking I might opt for a smoothie instead of cereal for breakfast sometime. With that being said, I know NOTHING about making a smoothie or a good beginner recipe.
I Google'd recipes yesterday, but I would love to hear your recipes, opinions and tricks of the trade first. Please share.

The base of any green monster is fruit, liquid (milk of choice or water, ice (if the fruit is not frozen, and then a couple handfuls of spinach.
You can add in healthy fats such as chia seed or nut butters. You can also add in protein powder especially if you are using it as a recovery smoothie.
I almost always use unsweetened almond milk as my liquid base for GM smoothies. It's only 35 calories for 8 oz. It seems more creamy to me than adding water and helps kill my thrice daily real milk cravings.
Honestly - you can not mess up a smoothie - I like mine more shake like so I will add ice even if the fruit is frozen. Throw everything into a blender and blend away.
My normal morning smoothie is:
8 oz almond milk, 1/4 c. - 1/2 c. fruit, 1 big handful of spinach and ice. Blend and pour.
My only tip is that if you use frozen spinach watch the amout - the frozen tends to be a lot more spinach per cup so it can come out tasting a little too spinach-y. For fresh I use the one big handful and for frozen I use about 3/4 cup.

Can someone explain the point of these? Why you could not just incorporate spinach, fruits and veggies into your daily meals?
I mean I literally eat spinach, fruit and veggies EVERYDAY...why would it be better in smoothie/shake form?
Because it is an easy way to get in a serving or more of leefy greens without having to sit down and eat a big bowl of spinach at 7am.
I would bet most of the PP ('cept 5 yo Lacy - lol...teasing girly) probably eat veggies/fruits with every meal but why not get more?
Lacy - no you can not taste the spinach. The color is funky, funky but drink it out of a non-clear glass and you won't even notice that. It's a good way to trick kids (and DH's) into eating veggies!
ETA: Lacy - also have you tried the V8 fusion drinks? You can get a lot from that and they don't taste bad at all.
This is my go-to recipe, too.
Except I usually add a teaspoon or two of chia seeds.

I want to try them and replace my usual Slimfast in the morning with these. Once I get to work at 10, I need something easy for breakfast that I can eat or drink while I'm working. So I think these will be a lot healthier. Plus I have heard that they give you more energy -- which I am always short on no matter how many fruits and veggies I eat.

Lmao...I know, I'm a terrible eater! Thanks for the tip...I have the perfect cup for this. I will have to give it a try.
That's what I did. I wanted to kick all fake sugar before TTC and my only source of aspartame was the Slim-Fast which I was only using because it was quick and easy. I do the almond milk smoothie now and don't miss the SF one bit!
Cool, it's a good one! Welcome and congrats on your BFP!
You crack me up!
I know almond milk is sold at the regular grocery store, I buy mine at Albertson's in the refrigerated section near the cow's milk. The seeds? Not sure.
I think I am going to try them with soy milk first. I want to go to Whole Foods because I want all the ingredients to be all organic.

I get plenty of fruits and veggies in by eating them throughout the day but I love (especially) in summer to drink a smoothie in the morning and I can just get an extra serving in without any effort.
All the specialty milks can be bought at most grocery stores especially if they have a health section, the seeds will be harder to find, but I buy a lot of mine online.
I will bring you some to the next book club as I have a 5lb bag I bought online.
