Bug or Animal? PIP

image

This is my zucchini squash plant.  About 3 of the leaves are like this or in some state of this.  Is it an insect or an animal?  It's a giant plant already, and it's only 3 leaves of many, but I'd like to put an end to it.

Ideas?

  • I'm voting bug because an animal would have a hard time eating away just a hole in the center of a leaf.

LOL, yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, and I thought if it was an animal it would have eaten a lot more of the plant!   But thought maybe a bunny could munch like that.

Guess I'll start spraying with soap and water.

but that's only going to help if you spray it *on* said bug. and it won't help at all with catepillars or slugs.

  • I'm having the same problem with my zuchini plants! The holes in mine are much smaller, though. I think if it's a caterpillar you would see it somewhere on the plant, or on one near it, same with slugs. I tried the soap and water thing yesterday so we shall see!

  • Some invertebrate is my vote.

Slugs are sneaky  - you might see one or two tiny ones during the day...then they come out in droves after dark. When I lived in Oregon I had to re-plant my cukes and zuchs FOUR times before I figured out what was annihilating them.

make these if you think it might be slugs http://www.janesdeliciousgarden.com/snails_and_slugs
