We keep buying vacuums, and they keep dying. Part user error (DH sucking up the cord to the blinds which made the motor catch fire, sigh), part cheap-o craftsmanship, and I'm tired of seemingly never having a decent vacuum. We also have a long-haired dog, which makes the workload harder on a vacuum. I've heard great things about Dysons, and their 'Animal' line sounds great, but on sale (at Walmart) I've found the DC28 Animal for $478, and the DC25 Animal for $430, ouch! So, I'm wondering a few things:
1) Is the performance worth it - will it really suck up pet hair?
2) Will it last?
3) Which one model should I get? Is the DC25 with the ball better for ease of use, or is the more expensive DC28, sans ball, better because of the sucking power?
TIA ladies, I really appreciate it!!
Re: Deciding on a Dyson - help!
We've had a Dyson DC-17 (Asthma/Allergy, which I don't think they make anymore) for the past 4-5 years and it's been great the whole time. We have two cats and it really gets everything out of the carpet. We used a BB&B coupon and saved 20%, even though I think the coupon says it can't technically be used on Dysons. So far, I think we're definitely getting our money's worth out of it.
Regarding the dog, do you have a Furminator? We have one for our cats and it works wonders! You can get them cheaper on Amazon than you can at a pet store, and they even have one just for long haired dogs.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
1. I didn't believe the hype, but my husband really wanted one, so we got a refurbished one off amazon. It's freaking amazing. We don't have pets, but the suction is so powerful it lifts our area rug off the ground slightly.
2. we've only had it for about a year, so can't speak for long-term durability, but it's still like brand new.
3. no clue.
check out the refurbished ones, though!
1. It's awesome. We only have one little dog, but it works on all her hair. When we got it DH took it over to his parents house, vacuumed the rug MIL had recently vacuumed with her fancy oreck (they had a yellow lab at the time) adn it sucked so much crap out of her carpet it was gross. Had to empty at least three times for just the living room and hallway.
2. We've had ours almost 3 years and it's still working great. We don't use it heavily though (our place now has mostly hardwood).
3. We have the ball and it's really easy to maneuver.

I am in the market for the exact same thing!
Just an FYI: Consumer report gave DC28 a great rating! DC25 Animal was not tested. I am torn between the 25 & 28.
