Traveling with little ones
We leave in one week for a vacation back home! This is the first time traveling on a plane with dd and I was wondering of any one could answer these questions. We are flying southwest and get two checked bags. Is a pack and play considered a checked bag? Also, mckinley will be flying in our laps, but can we gate check her car seat? Im afraid to check it with regular luggage in case it gets lost. Thanks ladies! Pfp
Re: Traveling with little ones
Yes, you can gate check her car seat and a stroller if you have one. I would also just gate check the pack 'n play vs putting it with your luggage. I'm pretty sure if you check it with the regular luggage it'll count as a bag.
Also, if your flight is pretty empty they might be nice and let DD have an actual seat for free and you can bring her car seat on the plane for her to ride in. We flew with our DD on Southwest when she was 6 months old and didn't buy a seat for her. On the way to FL there was extra room on the plane, so they gave us a free seat. On the way back the flight was full so she had to ride on our laps, but she slept the whole way. I've heard of a few other moms who got free seats for their LOs on non-full Southwest flights. GL and have a great trip!
Oh ya, but I'm a planner and love to travel. One of my (older) coworkers is so impressed that we go everywhere and do everything with Mariela and don't let having a baby interfere with our love of traveling. I just see it as she's a part of our family and we wouldn't feel right leaving her behind. We got her, her first passport last month and we're taking her on her first cruise in August. I. Can't. Wait. I already can't wait to take her to Disney for the first time, too, when she's a bit older.

I'd double check how many things you can check at the gate. Think about getting through the airport with a stroller, carseat and pack n play. That's a lot of stuff to carry through security, etc. Plus your diaper bag/carry on. And your daughter. Even if you DH is with you.
I forget if you said you are staying with family, but if so, could they maybe check and see if they can borrow a pack n play from someone while you are there. Might be easier than dragging your own there and risking any damage.

I'm not sure you can gate check a pnp, plus that is a PITA to lug through the airport. I'd really try to get one at your destination.
I would for sure gate check the stroller & car seat though! (though if you can borrow a stroller at the end, that would be nice too!)
I agree with everyone about the PNP, see if your family can borrow one for the time you are there; or if Babies Away has a rental in group area. We just rented a PNP and jogging stoller while we were in Myrtle Beach and it was heaven! So much less to lug around. It was only like $11/day for both so pretty reasonable. If that isn't an option, I would check it with luggage. Also, I checked the carseat when I went I went to CO with Norah in May, but I was traveling by myself with her and I wouldn't have been able to get everything through the airport.
Don't forget a copy of the birth certificate, Southwest really does check them!
