How was your weekend?

I had dinner Saturday night with a couple girlfriends, and then brunch Sunday with a couple more friends on Sunday.  Otherwise, it was a pretty quiet weekend.

DH is home today after 11 days away teaching a course...I can't wait!

Re: How was your weekend?

  • Yay for your DH being home!

Our weekend was pretty low key. We drove around Saturday looking for some garage sales but didn't really see any of note, so we ended up at the thrift store, where we scored a great deal of some stuff. We then went home and worked on some house projects, but didn't get to stain the deck due to rain. Sunday was relaxing with watching some tv and trying out a new idea on making art for our house (which worked great!). We got some canvases hung too, so our bedroom no longer looks so barren.

  • Lets see..Saturday afternoon me and H went shopping at outlet mall. After that we went out to dinner, and it was horrible! The food was awful, it was a little whole in the wall place. Made me so mad. The shopping was pretty fun tho, we picked up some topsy turvy plants that were going to fix up this weekend. Then we rented a movie and had a little fun. ;)

Sunday my mom called me in the morning saying that her car broke down and she needed to be towed home. I woke up H since he works graveyard he was sleeping and we went and bought towing stuff, and rented trailer. Towed her home, and stopped and picked up lunch. Then when we got home H went to sleep and I finished Water for Elephants, and started a new book-The book thief. After H woke up we went to 7 eleven and got slurpys, and redbox, and watched the green hornet-i thought it was ok..not my kind of movie tho

Did you like it?  I've been thinking this book might be right up my alley.

Let's see.  On Saturday the dragon boat races were cancelled because of a storm (that stopped immediately after everyone left, haha) and I went to the lab.  At the lab I finished making a clam-shell box for one of my artefacts and that took me way longer than it should have.  The guy who was hoping to go on the double date with Matt and I never called.  Who knows why.  Maybe he never ran it by his wife. lol  Matt and I ended up watching a movie at home and eating creamy wasabi coleslaw.  Wasabi is one of matt's favourite things, and in coleslaw, just tastes like regular horseradish.

On Sunday I went to the lab again and worked on my lace dress.  I couched some losses in the lace and photographed my "after" documentation photos.  I covered the buttons with tissue paper and packed it away for storage.  It's done!  7 weeks and it's done! That felt amazing.  When I got home, I did some chem homework and Matt and I had leftovers for dinner (chicken and coleslaw again).  Then we started watching the AMC series "The Killing" but fell asleep half way through the pilot.  We're going to try to finish it tonight.

And today is technically still my weekend--no school today.  I'm finishing up a ridiculous textile project I have due tomorrow.  I'm describing 21 varieties of raw material from sheep, alpaca, mohair, and other junk.  I have samples too and some of them are squishy and smell awful.  Grossest project yet. I'll be glad to hand this in and get it out of my house.  I can't imagine how marking them must be for the teacher.  ew.

  • Total mixed bag weekend, unfortunately. I was supposed to go the NKOTBSBWTFBBQ concert on Saturday, but my friend bailed three days before. I ended up selling the tickets, and being really cranky the night of the show, because I kind of still wanted to go. (But didn't want to drag my husband. Because I love him.)  However, we spent the afternoon visiting my husband's grandmother, who was in the hospital for a few days last week, and she's in much better spirits than we expected, so that was good.  And we grabbed take-out from our favorite take-out place on the way home.

Yesterday, we were supposed to go out for a nice dinner to celebrate my birthday, but instead, I came down with a cold that won't decide if it wants to stay or go. So instead, we hung out in our sweats and caught up on some tv and watched movies.  I'm still annoyed I didn't get my beef wellington, though we're going to try and go later this week, maybe.

  • Friday night we babysat our FG and RB and had a blast.  I love seeing DH interact with them!

Saturday- run in morning, breakfast at home, showered and cleaned up the place/did laundry, got new running shoes, went to Ribest (mmmm bad food) and we stopped in a new brew supply store.  DH fell in love.  One of his coworkers lives in the same apt building as the store's owners and introduced DH to the guys.  The store was 20% off everything for Ribfest so DH bought supplies to brew 3 different kinds.  In the past when he's brewed from a recipe (instead of a boxed kit); it cost $70 for the supplies; this wknd he paid $90 and supples for 3 recipes!

Since we spent most of the day at the fest and were drinking; we were exhausted when we got home.  We walked Oscar to get a slice of pizza and then watched Conviction (with Hillary Swank).

Sunday we tried a new breakfast place (which was disappointing).  I ran errands and DH went to Blues Fest with a friend.

It was a nice low-key wknd but we still got out which was nice!

Then when we got home H went to sleep and I finished Water for Elephants,

Did you like it?  I've been thinking this book might be right up my alley.

Sorry to but in, but I saw this and had to provide my review:  The book is absolutely amazing, I think you would love it since it gives great descriptions of the 1930s and you are into vintage.  The movie wasn't horrible and I'd probably really like it if I hadn't seen the movie first...

    Now on to my weekend...

Friday began my summer vacation but DH had to drive in to work and we had plans in the evening so I didn't really get to sleep in...I rode with him to a doctor's appointment and went to lunch together at a hole in the wall diner with really good and cheap food before dropping him of at work for a half day.  Then I went window shopping...I did get a breakfast in bed tray and cards but that was it.  Then back to pick him up at work and we went out for happy hour with his coworkers-it is something they do a few times a year and we always have fun-where of course everyone is trying to get me to drink and I couldn't because we are TTC and I'm not sure we haven't succeeded, luckily no one asked why I wasn't drinking though DH almost blurted it out a couple times...

Saturday we got up and worked on painting the room that will eventually be a nursery then we watched some tv and I made pasta salad for his best friend's daughter's birthday party.  We went to the party and then to Walmart for groceries.

Sunday we just lounged around most of the day and then mid afternoon decided to go out to this really pretty bridge near our house and go wading/swimming...when we got home we watched "The Princess and the Frog" which I really thought was kind of cute but not up to the normal Disney par...

Ya I agree. It was a pretty good book. I guess I was hoping for a little bit more from the ending though but all in all i would definitely recommend. I am really excited to see the movie! I LOVE princess and the frog. My h does too which is pretty cute. But one kid movie i would recommend would be megamind..too funny!

Seventh Anniversary 5000 Comments 500 Love Its Name Dropper

Friday night we just hung around the apartment.  He watched the O's game and I did some reading.  I think we went to bed somewhat early but I really don't even remember, how sad is that?  I think I was so p*ssed/frustrated about my car breaking down that I didn't even put any effort into having a fun Friday night.  I got home, put my pajamas on, curled up in 'my' chair and that's pretty much all that stands out.

Saturday I woke up early and went to get supplies to make cheesecake cupcakes for my BFF's baby shower on Sunday.  I spent forever making those because I only have one 12 cup muffin pan and I was making 40 of these cupcakes which had to cool down between every batch.  It would have been much faster/easier if I bought another muffin pan but alas, I'm cheap and don't make muffins/cupcakes often so I couldn't justify the purchase.  We both took a nap Saturday evening; I always try so hard to get at least 1 nap over the weekend, otherwise I feel cheated lol.  Saturday night we watched Valentine's Day which was cute but cheesy, as most romantic comedies are.

Sunday was my BFF's baby shower so I went early to help set up for that and then stayed afterwards to help clean up.  I'm so excited for her and her husband (who is also one of my closest friends); they've been through so much over the last few years regarding trying to have a baby, so I'm just so happy it's finally working out well for them.  Jason went to hang out with a friend while I was gone, and we both got home around the same time, put our pajamas on, and called it a night early again.

    Pretty exciting stuff, huh? lol

I'm definitely going to read this now.  I heard not-so-good reviews of the movie, so was hesitant about the book.  I'll wait to watch the movie until after I've seen the book, though, so I don't ruin the book for myself!

    P.S. I also love Megamind.
