It's time. It's so past time to get rid of the binky. So we are going to go the binky fairy route I think. We've been talking it up that the binky fairy is coming and that she'll take Olivia's binkies and give them to babies that need them. I thought as I was saying it that it sounded a little ridiculous but I think she bought it.Although she did say, No mama thats not ok. The binky is MINE. But now, a couple days later, I think she's more open to it. She said she wants to help the babies. Aw. ![]()
Those that did this, how did you do the "exchange" between the binky and a surprise? What did the binky fairy leave as a surprise? I think for Olivia, it's gotta be a pretty darn good surprise to give up her binkies! LOL Thanks!
Re: Tell me about the binky fairy....
I've never heard it done quite this way and I've heard quite the variety of ways. It's cute though and I like the aspect of helping someone else.
Are you planning on giving the binkies to someone else or tossing them? If you really do plan to give them to someone else, would she be able to be a part of that? Since she is excited to help, maybe seeing another baby with her binky (or one the same size/color/shape) would be helpful. (I've got a baby and a couple variety of binkies if that would help).
Otherwise, I'd say it would be best to take them during naptime. Collect them all and leave her a present. Sign a card from the binky fairy, thanking her for helping other babies.
We used the Binky Fairy for Maya and it worked really well. My only regret is not doing it sooner!
DH and I picked a date on the calendar. We had a couple trips we wanted to wait out first. We talked to her about it and prepared her for it. I helped her make one of those paper chains to countdown to the day the fairy would come. She colored the strips and helped me put it together. We hung it in the living room and she tore one off every day, then counted the remaining ones. The night the binky fairy came, we wrote her a letter from the fairy talking about what a big girl she was now. The binky fairy left her a small fish tank with 2 fish (that she named Binky and Dinky
) For the first couple of days she whined a little at naps and bedtime, but never full out cried for it. For a while she talked about missing it, but we continued to reinforce and praise. We also talked about how her binky was hurting her teeth (it caused a gap) and how the dentist was going to be so proud of her as well.
Good luck!
