Resume

I'm applying for a job and it requires an application form, along with your resume and cover letter.

The form has asked for you to list your last three jobs in order. Would you list even insignificant jobs? I was always told applications should match your resume, but if I list them in order, it will not. I've left off lots of my insignificant jobs off of my resume due to length and whether or not they related to the jobs I'm applying for.

It does give you a small space below to explain any gaps of employment over 30 days.

What would you do if you were in this position?

Re: Resume

  • I've put insignificant jobs on my application but not my resume. IMO my resume is suppose to highlight my experience in the field I'm applying for, and my application is my job history.

I've done this as well when a company asks for a full work history.

  • Thanks ladies!

Though Blockbuster and the TV station had their perks, they weren't exactly resume builders!

Ha ! I understand. Summer factory worker in college doesn't sound great, but I got free bagels. And actually that experience has come in useful for certain oddball interview questions as well.

  • I think I'd stick with the relevant experience. All you need to do is get their attention and interest to get you in the door for an interview, right? You'd more likely do that with the relevant jobs, I think.

Do you mean just list the last three relevant jobs then explain the gaps in employment as being employed at other jobs, just not relevant jobs?
