I've noticed that a couple of you are planning on visiting Gettysburg PA this summer. I live about 30 minutes south of there so if you aren't super busy during your vacations, you totally have to let me know and I'll come up to hang out lol.
Also, if you've never been, I can probably give you some info on some of the best/coolest things to do there. From 1st grade through 12th grade my schools made us go every year for a field trip, and I guess it stuck with me because I try to go at least twice a year still, once in the spring time and once around Halloween

Re: Gettysburg PA
Hmmmm that's an idea. Might visit there with Matt this summer since it's under a 3 hour drive from his parents.
Isn't there supposed to be some major reenactment going on there in 2013 or something too? 150th anniversary of the battle, I think. Matt really wants to go there and see that, and I think that would be amazing.
I am sure there will be a big event, but I am not sure of any of the details as of yet. Here is the official website http://www.gettysburgcivilwar150.com/default.aspx. So far I only see events going through 2011 but I am sure the exact dates and times for the events closer to the actual anniversary will be posted when it gets a bit closer.
I definitely recommend visiting there sometime. I love it because of the ghostly/eerie aspects of it, but Jason doesn't believe in that kind of stuff but really enjoys going because there is just so much history. Every few steps you take you see a marker that has a small paragraph of something that happened in that exact spot. They offer so many types of tours too, everything from 2 level bus tours, to horse & carriage tours, to car tours where you put a speaker box in your car and they give you directions to follow and it tells you information about things you are passing, to just walking tours...and we cannot forget the many many ghost tours
You can also just go around by yourself without a tour guide and without having to pay a fee which is really fun too, especially since mid-tour you can stop and grab some lunch/dinner at one of the cute taverns.
There are a lot of really neat Bed & Breakfast and Inn's to stay in that are right in the middle of everything.
That sounds like a really awesome thing to do over Hallowe'en!
Xan and others who have been to Gettysburg:
Question: Could Gettysburg be done in one day? I realize that we could probably fill many days, but if we only have one day is it worth going? Or should I put off Gettysburg until we have a chance to spend a longer time there?
It can definitely be done in one day. The longest I've ever stayed was probably 6-8 hours and that was us taking our good ol' time. The tours are typically around 90 minutes-2hours and then you can walk around, shop, eat, and just take it all in within a couple of hours.
