I have a lasik consultation coming up later this week.
Where did you or your husband go? What was your experience and cost?
Re: Lasik
I went to Castleman Eye Center in Troy. I went to 3 different centers first before making my decision. My experience was great! They were always on time with all of the appts, and very calming the day of the surgery. I wasn't nervous until I went into the room to have it done. It's been over 4 years and even with a pregnancy, my vision has been perfect since that day. They did explain that pregnancy and getting older can make your vision worse, to where you would have to repeat it. I will do it again, if I ever need it in the future!
I had it done Feb 2007, and it cost me $2800, my insurance picked up 10%, so total was just over $3000. I forget which type of lasik I had, but I have an astigmatism in both eyes and was a negative 6.0 in both eyes.
I just had my consult about a week ago. I went to Clavenna in Birmingham and saw Dr. Fitzgerald, I know several ladies on here have gone there. For regular Lasik my price is $3150, for the advanced is $4200. I'll have it done in January so I can put the money in our FSA.
On a side note, I play tennis with several eye doctors from UoM and they both said the following:
1. Do NOT go to Canada!
2. Do not go to anyone who advertises on TV.
3. Go to someone who does the procedure in a hospital, not in the office.
I went through Henry Ford about 9 years ago. I had/have an astigmatism and at the time the procedure was not very good on them. I see 20/25 now and still have the astigmatism so if you see me wearing glasses its because my eyes are tired and the astigmatism is making things just a little blurry. I would say that 90% of the time at least I don't have to wear my glasses so it was still worth it for me.
I went to the Laser Eye Institute in Troy with Dr. Haddad. (http://www.lasereyeinstitute.com/) I know someone on here before they had a consult with him and he kind of creeped her out. Let me just say that Dr. Haddad is a little eccentric, but I love him and his staff is amazing. I had my surgery back in December. I had 20/20 vision the next day, but due to my own personal recovery/circumstances, my vision ended up sliding back and then improving again, but not all the way. Not everyone reacts the same to the surgery. During the whole time Dr. Haddad and his office were great through my anxiety, tears, and frustrations. They never once indicated ANY unwillingness to do a correction down the road (be careful because he said some offices will not do a correction unless you hit a certain level below 20/20), and gave me deep discounts on temporary lenses so that I could see for distance for the time being. I had an "enhancement" about a week and a half ago and my vision is much improved (back to 20/20 or better). I am still dealing with some issues, but I continue to be happy with my results and am trying to be patient with my own recovery. Again, I am apparently a unique snowflake.
I recommended him to a girl a work with in my office and she had her correction done almost 2 months ago. She had 20/20 the next day and continues to see perfect. No complaints. She also like Dr. Haddad and loved his staff. He is also the most reasonably priced doctor I saw (I had 3 consults). For both eyes, of custom LASIK (the most current technology, I wouldn't do basic just because I think that when I comes to my eyes, I want the best technology), I think it was about $2800-$3000 (before the discount I got for optical insurance coverage). Again, I HIGHLY recommend him. When you speak with him, though he can be a little chatty, you can tell that he absolutely knows what he's talking about. If you go, send me an email at lindsayesquire at gmail dot com and I'll tell you my real name so that you can tell them I sent you.
Good luck!
