What to wear?

I know y'all probably get this question a lot--sorry if it's a repeat.

I am currently in nursing school and I have two interviews on Wednesday (at the same hospital) for CNA positions. I'd be wearing scrubs to work, but what should I wear to the interview?

I have a skirt, white with a black print, and a nice top I could wear, but I was concerned that would be too dressy for the positions I am interviewing for. I don't really have any dress pants, but if it's necessary I can get a pair before the interview. Too dressy is better than not dressy enough, right?

TIA!

Re: What to wear?

  • A suit. You wear a suit.

The dress code of the workers has no bearing on what you wear to an interview. If there's a company with casual Fridays or a business casual dress code, that doesn't mean you dress like that for an interview. You wear a suit. Only in rare occasions (some non-professional jobs, for example) would you not.

  • Business professional. Our office is very very casual, and it is possible that the person interviewing you will be in jeans and a t-shirt, but you need to dress to impress.  Make sure your hair is styled, a little makeup, nails need to be clean/polished.  We had a lady come in for an interview, great interview, ok resume, and she wasn't hired.  Why? Her hair looked a little wild (think not washed this morning and she wore it in a braid yesterday), and her red nail polish was chipped.  These things stick out.  It takes less than 1 minute to remove nail polish.

How you will dress at work has no bearing on how you dress to apply for the job.  A suit is ideal.  A nice skirt with a jacket would be acceptable.
  • I asked this same question a few weeks ago (but for a different industry).  I decided to go with a suit and was so glad I did!  Even though members from the interview panel were wearing jeans and polo shirts I was so glad that I was "dressed up".  I felt so professional and was able to concentrate on my answers as opposed to whether or not I was dressed formal enough or not.

    Good luck in your interview!!
