I'm in a rut. I only eat at home 2-3 days per week. When I do eat at home I eat bagel bits or a lean cuisine, but that gets pretty old since I only like a few of them.
I love bagels and cream cheese because they're not frozen food, but they last a long time. Problem is the variety of cream cheese is pretty slim so I'm now bored of that too. I got some goat cheese spread instead this week and it's okay, but not great.
Any ideas of something else that stays good for awhile (meaning no veggies and things since I never finish them before they rot). Maybe other suggestions on what to put on my bagels or somewhere to get new cream cheese flavors??

Re: Help me spice up my lunch
I forgot about that already made chicken salad at the grocery. I think it lasts awhile. Any idea how long chicken salad that you make at home lasts? I also like those laughing cow cheeses - good ideas.
I tend to avoid lunch meat since I only like the deli counter sliced and it always seems to expire. I may give it another go though!
It will last longer if you put it in your own resealable bag, something a little more expensive than what the deli carries. As long as the meat doesn't smell bad or feel slimy it is good. <--yes, I used to work in a deli.

do you have whole foods? they have lots of different varieties of really good cream cheeses. i think deli salads don't last for very long. because they may not make it the day you buy it. i remember i asked this about some egg salad i bought at whole foods once. any kind of meat in general isn't going to last unless it's frozen.
for recommendations i ditto hummus. also peanut butter. some protein is always good to keep you full longer. i think yogurt lasts awhile. do you like quesadillas? tortillas and grated cheese probably last a week and a half or two. they have some pasta lunches that don't require refrigeration that you can bring and cook in the micro (if you have one). also cheese and crackers for something different.
i eat bagels almost everyday
i'm happy with just plain cream cheese...but i do buy salami and turkey deli meat. i find that if i buy less (not a whole pound) then i typically use it all and don't feel bad. sometimes i go through it really quick and even have to go back to the store...but it keeps me from wasting. also, buy stuff you like...it took me a while to find turkey that wasnt gross (to me). but, once i did, i love it.
i also make pizza bagels..but i make them from real bagels and make them myself. also, tuna melts...if you use one of the tuna pouches it's not as much actual tuna as in the can. then you wont have any leftovers!
We have a whole foods somewhere - I'll have to check that out. I went to Earth Fare and there wasn't really anything good.
I do like quesadillas - we're actually having those for dinner later this week! Problem is that I'm only home for 20 minutes so I need something quick too.
Lots of criteria, I know!
Baby carrots with that ranch dip you make with the hidden valley packet sound really good right now...
I never thought about microwaving them! Seriously that's a great idea.
