Any RNs out there?

I am going to graduate from nursing school in August, so I'll soon be job-seeking.  I know this probably depends upon the organization, and I plan to do some local research, but what type of experience have you had with applying before passing boards? Just want to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!

Re: Any RNs out there?

  • Maybe ask your advisor what is recommended. I graduated in may 06 and started applying in March 06, got hired in April, went through orientation while waiting on boards. I'm not sure if that's how all hospitals do things though!
  • I am in a nursing program and know many people who have graduated from medical programs. Most of them end up getting a job where they did their clinicals and the offer is made clear prior to the end of clinicals and they are urged to apply and get the job - upon passing of course.

  • graduated in dec '09. started applying for jobs that november before graduation. a lot of the jobs in my area were contingent on passing nclex. started interviewing in january. took nclex on feb 4 and started orientation on feb 15.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Things are different now and jobs are harder to come by, so I would for sure be looking NOW if I were you and graduating in a couple of months. FWIW, several years ago, I graduated in December. I was looking and applying for jobs at the beginning of my last semester. I had interviews in October and had accepted a job by November. I started working in January.

Oh, and I took my boards in the middle of January and was a RN by the end of January.
