When you purchase new household items
dishes, utensils, food storage containers, do you wash them before putting away?
I always do.
A couple of years ago I was over a friends house, right after her bridal shower and she started putting her new stuff away, without washing. I thought was was nasty. Especially dishes, they do tend to get dusty from the packaging.
Re: When you purchase new household items
Stuff that will touch food - yes, I wash it first.
I read on another board about people washing clothes before they wear them... I don't do that unless it touches the lady parts. I will totally buy a shirt and wear it without washing.
Those shirts sit in factories, on a dirty truck and then in the store where god knows who has tried it on, possibly sans bra. You should really wash all your new clothes first. My DH isn't really anal about many things but he gets so grossed out when he hears people say they didn't wash their new clothes first.

No way do I wash clothes first. I know it's gross when you think about it, but ignorance is bliss
Plus, I like the way new clothes fit. After that first wash, sometimes things are not the same.

agreed.
but seriously i don't think not washing your new dishware or clothes is the most disgusting thing in the world. there is a lot more "gross" things i question in the world.
i mean do you wash down every beer can and beer bottle you get? those sit in wharehouses and travel as well.
if i(or someone in my household) had a compromised immune system and/or sensitive skin/allergies i would wash dishes/food stuffs and clothing.
as i am a normal healthy adult i do not feel the need.
i do follow proper handwashing techniques like a maniac though.
