I've got years to go before my Civic dies (knock on wood) but I've been dreaming about new cars so:
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car?
2) What's your dream car?
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it?
Re: Car poll
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? Its probably going to be some sort of mommy mobile considering I will have two kids. DH and I both have sedans right now and I am really not an SUV person at all, but I think logistically we will have to go a little bigger. Maybe a CR-V, Subaru Forester, Equinox, Ford Edge, etc...But still we are going to drive our current cars as long as possible.
2) What's your dream car? LOL, a volvo wagon. I'm serious.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Since we will be looking at bigger vehicles next anything above 30 would be good I suppose.1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I would probably get another Escape.
2) What's your dream car? An old Jeep Wrangler or a Ford Thunderbird convertible
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? No, I really only do most of my driving on the weekends. Right now my commute is only about 9 miles.I want to preface this by issuing a disclaimer to say that I AM NOT A LOSER AND I'M SUPER COOL!!!
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? a minivan. Once we have even one kid its going to be the only vehicle that can really comfortably hold two large dogs, a car seat, multiple adults if necessary, stroller, etc. I hate large SUVs so wont get one, so minivan it is!
2) What's your dream car? This is the reason for my disclaimer. Outside of like a super swanky maserati or something, a minivan IS my dream car. I think they are easy to drive and I think they are comfortable for transporting larger groups. we went to the beach once two years ago in my mom's minivan, complete with my brother, my mother, my SIL, my niece in her car seat, my nephew, me, and everything that babies require (mainly bins of toys) and food for the weekend and the stroller. (suitcases followed separately lol.) Oh, and one 90 lb golden retriever and one 70 lb yellow lab. And we were all relatively comfy. As it is, in our Vue, things are cramped for longer trips and we can't take people with us, which is annoying. If we had a minivan, we could take the two dogs, suitcases, golf clubs, crate, etc with us along with another couple (or two!) We do weekend trips often enough that this is a real issue for us, hence my obsession with getting a minivan.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Not especially. I guess a bare minimum would be around 25 mpg, I dont want a total gas-guzzler and the more gas-efficient the better, but my dream minivan is more important. My first car got 45 mpg highway (saturn coupe) and that was AWESOME, particularly when i was driving to Atlanta frequently in college.
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I've got 3 more payments on my Pontiac and then we want to bank that payment for at least 6 months- so I have about 9-12 months before I can start looking. DH wants a Toyota pickup, I want a Mustang convertible- either way, it won't be a "family" car.
2) What's your dream car? yellow Mustang GT convertible
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? No, I only drive about 7 miles round trip to and from work and I'm off for 2 months a year, so I don't spend a lot on gas anyway.
1) We are really not eyeing up anything as our next car... though perhaps we should be, as our wagon is coming up on 100K miles fast. Though we plan on driving it until it dies.
2) Well, in college I always said I wanted a volvo wagon, and I have one. Maybe it's from years of living in NYC, but I am very much over having a new car as a status symbol, I am fine w/ a slightly older car so long as it runs well, is paid for and looks half decent. I actually like some older model cars more, like I prefer the old Saabs to the new ones. I guess I could have any car it would be a Volvo or Saab convertible.
My dream car scenario is to go to Sweden, pick up a new Volvo wagon fresh off the assembly line, drive it around Europe on a fab family vacation, then drive it to a port and have it shipped over. There is a program to do this and it's actually not too spendy as you save on taxes because the car is used by the time you ship it or something.
3) For a commuter car has to be 30 mpg or better. This is harder to find in larger vehicles though. Also while higher mpg is important, in terms of overall environmental impact, the "greenest" option is usually the vehicle (or any other object) you already have and to reduce the amount of driving you do.

1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? Seeing that we just bought our Pilot in 2009, I don't think we are in the market to buy anything new for another 4 years. Even though DH Honda Accord now has over 100,000 I think we will keep his car for as long as we can.
2) What's your dream car? I really don't have a dream car per say. I really wanted the Honda Pilot, with two big 80lb dogs, a baby and a ton of crap that we tend to carry, this SUV works for us.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? If and when we replace DH car, we most likely get a sedan that gets at least 30 mpg (DH car gets about 28 mpg). Even though the Pilot doesn't get anywhere near what old civic use to get (35 mpg), we are still happy with our choice.1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I just bought my car last summer so I'm not looking for anything right now. H is considering buying a roadster in the next 6 months as a fun car.
2) What's your dream car? I like my Rogue, so I think at this point my dream car would be a luxury crossover or small SUV, maybe the Lexus hybrid SUV. I'm not into cars, so I don't know if I would ever be willing to actually spend up for it.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? When I was looking last year I knew that I wanted an SUV but ruled out anything didn't get at least 25mpg combined, so that limited me to small SUVs and crossovers.
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? DH gets the next "newer" car. I think he wants to replace his truck so I'm not even thinking about what mine would be.
2) What's your dream car? Keeping costs, fuel efficiency aside etc, a Range Rover Sport. Don't think it'll happen...
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? When we bought my car in 2008, gas prices were about what they are now or even slightly higher, so fuel efficiency was really high on our list. My current car has an inline 5 so it does pretty well on gas.1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I'm liking the Ford Edge and the Cadillac SRX these days
2) What's your dream car? Not sure, I'd love a Porsche Panamera but not sure its my dream car.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Nope, I'm going more for storage than MPG. Granted I would love an SUV/Crossover that could get me 40MPG
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? Another Jetta! Mine's got 100k+ and I plan on driving it til it dies, but I definitely want another one.
2) What's your dream car? I don't really have one. I don't dream of having a really fancy car (I dream of going on vacation! ha).
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Nope, I buy cars I like regardless of the MPG. My Jetta gets awesome gas mileage as it is, and despite my DC commute, I really only drive like 4x a week.
Acquaintances of mine did this - they had a blast.
DH bought a 2010 Nissan Versa last summer and I bought a 2011 Toyota Rav4 in April, so we're both set for cars for awhile. I love my SUV and it will be spacious enough for carting two kids (our limit) and luggage to a week's vacation. We don't have large dogs, don't do hauling, etc., so I didn't need anything larger.
I also tend to drive locally throughout the week and only go further on the weekends, so the fact that the fuel efficiency isn't the best doesn't have a huge impact. Of course I'd love for it to be more fuel efficient, but that wasn't the deciding factor in my car. I wanted comfort and something I loved at a price we could afford.
DH's car is far more fuel efficient and that was a huge selling factor for him. His commute is pretty hellish during the week, so he needed that benefit. His car isn't the family vehicle so it doesn't need to be spacious and able to cart things aside from the maximum of two kids, and it will serve that purpose just fine.
I don't have a dream car. I've never been into cars too much, but will say that when I buy, I like the bells and whistles. I like Acura SUVs and might look at one next time I'm buying, but that's far off yet, so my tastes may change.
Actually, I agree.
1) There is no car currently on the market that I REALLY want, so I guess I have a dream car instead.
2) a mini van, suv that gets 36-40mpg highway
3) yes, I won't buy a car that doesn't get at least as good gas mileage as my current car, which is 36-39mpg highway, but usually is 37.
We only have 1 car now (a Civic as well) but when we had two mine was a Mini Cooper. I *loved* it so #1 and 2 are the same answer
1. Mini Countryman (I previously had the regular one, but for my next car I want 4 door)
2. Same as #1
3. Our cars generally get around 35mpg and that's efficient enough for us.

1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? This has been a huge topic of discussion for us lately. My car is over 10 years old and it's not suiting my needs for traveling to dog shows and carting Keefer and future dogs around to classes, etc. We have been test driving SUVs and minivans for when we are ready to make the purchase. If funny how I can like the looks and stats of some vehicles, but really be disappointed when we drive them so we have some more on our list to test drive before we make any decisions. Most of the huge SUVs also don't have more cargo room than the class down from them because they have larger seats and unfortunately only one vehicle that is too big for me to ever want to drive comes close to the cargo space of a minivan so I have some decisions to make. Going to the national specialty for a week though made me realize that we couldn't have fit one more thing in DH's car so we really do need a larger vehicle.
2) What's your dream car? My dream would be to have an smaller SUV for driving to work and just to classes with him but then have a minivan for going to shows and trips. So if I had all the money in the world, a Toyota Sienna with AWD for those times and a Mercedes GL or ML series SUV and in my dream they both get awesome gas mileage.
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? While I would love a fuel efficient vehicle, unfortunately the cargo capacity has to come first. They just aren't making that many fuel efficient larger vehicles. My spreadsheet of vehicles to consider has gas mileage and they are almost all the same so it can't really factor into the decision very much.1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I'm looking to get a small SUV by the end of the year. I haven't decided but it's between the CRV and RAV4. But this could also change.
2) What's your dream car? For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to ride (or own) a range rover sport ::Yeah, never gonna happen::
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Not really, I take the metro to work (1 mile from our place) and on weekends/trips we use my husband's car.
1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? I currently have an '06 Acura TSX which will be paid off in July. I hope to not have a car payment for a while, but once we have kids (more than 1) I'll probably upgrade to the Acura MDX.
2) What's your dream car? Range Rover; BMW 700 Series
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? I have a relatively short commute to work and husband usually always drives, so I don't really consider it.1) What are you eyeing up as your next car? ughh I hope we don't have to take action on this anytime soon...but both of our cars have 100k plus miles. We commute together in our crossover which has slightly less miles than the other car.
Similar to CCK, DH "should" have the next pick. However, I would like another Audi sedan, a Subaru Outback, or Subaru Tribeca. I haven't test driven or really looked at cars in a while, so I could be missing out on a lot. We can get the Ford Blue Oval discount through my dad and DH is pushing for some type of Ford.
2) What's your dream car? Audi Q7
3) Do you have a level of fuel efficiency (mpg) that a car must average for you to consider it? Not really but I should considering our commute is roughly an hour one way. Right now we average about 20 mpg in the crossover.
