anyone know of places hiring (not for me)???

My best friend and her family are trying to move here from Oregon.  They have a lot of family north of Ames and want so badly to be close to family here.....Her DH is looking hard for a job but its been challenging to do so from so far away.  Does anyone know of any job openings or other suggestions to land a job quickly?  He needs to make about $40k and has leadership experience and has worked in areas such as PC support (IT), call centers, payroll support (similair to ADP).

If anyone knows anyone that is looking for a reliable hard worker - he is open to just about doing any type of work.

He has applied everywhere so I think its going to take a referral or landing a job through a friend to make this move happen....Any thoughts/help is greatly appreciated.

  • My company, EMC Insurance is hiring right now for the Des Moines area.  Here is the link to their current job openings.

    http://www.emcins.com/Careers/Job_Openings.aspx

If he looks at the jobs in Des Moines, he'll see there is one for a computer programmer, one for an assistant programmer/technician (computers), a compensation analyst (payroll related), and a telecommunications associate (internal phone customer service for EMC employees, not an outside call center).  Most of these jobs should be around the salary level he needs.  The IT jobs might even be over it depending on his qualifications.  Unfortunately I don't know the supervisors who are hiring for these positions so I can't really get him in with a recommendation.  I would suggest he apply online through the website and see where it goes from there.

  • Oh and just so he knows, the hiring process at EMC can be a little slow.  They will open the job for a few weeks, call candidates back, do at least 2 rounds of interviews for every position, then maybe have a 3rd round of interviews if it is close between 2 candidates.  Then they will make an offer contingent upon passing a background check.  That usually takes another week to get back, then start dates, etc. are setup.  If he's looking for something he can start tomorrow, that probably won't happen here.  He would probably be looking at a 3-6 week process.  But he should definitely consider it, and continue to follow up weekly with HR if he submits an application so they know he is interested.

  • EMC is a great company!  My MIL retired from there and DH used to work there as well.  I have forwarded this information on to my friend.  They have a couple of months- they still have to physically move here but they were ready to go June 1 so its time to make things happen.  =)  Thanks again.

  • If he's in IT he could get in with a contracting company fairly easily. It wouldn't be guaranteed work, but he could apply for temp to hire positions, etc. if all else failed.

    Modis,Tehnisource, DSM IT Staffing, etc.

  • Nationwide is hiring too!  If you find a job listing he is looking at on Nationwide.com I can look up the salary band
