Quattro Goombas winery

Cheeky - I saw in another post you went there, which made me think to ask...

We stopped there last month and I was very surprised that half of their tasting was wines from other wineries - I think all CA, not even local ones.  They are a fairly new winery, purchase all of their grapes from far-off places, and when they run out of their own wines to taste they just add whatever they want to the tasting (so maybe 4 out of 7 wines are not even theirs).  Does that put off anyone else?  I get that they're small and run out of things, but I would rather pay less and taste just their wines, rather than pay $5 or $7 to taste a bunch of wines I can get at some random wine store.

It doesn't help that the woman doing our tasting was treating us as an afterthought because she was busy chatting up her co-workers.

  • i agree, i'd rather spend a little less on the tasting and only sample their wines. the guy we had was good and we thought the woman working seemed brusque so we were happy to have had him. we liked their wines and bought one bottle each of our two favorites. they need to get caught up on making their own wines or they aren't going to do very well as there's plenty of good competition very nearby.

  • I think I would definitely be put off if they did tastings of wines that weren't their own.  Though I do (sort of) if they are a newer winery.  It is weird that they bring in CA wines.

  • Yeah, we thought the same thing when we were there and haven't been back.  One of the (many) reasons we love the wineries we do (here and in our native Upstate NY) is that it's all about supporting local farmers, local producers, local jobs.  We're case club members of two VA wineries that are truly local, and when we visit the Finger Lakes we typically come back with 3-4 cases.  We even had our reception at one of Seneca Lake's estate vineyards and micro-breweries.  It definitely turns me off that it's not a truly local winery.
