Frosting Recipes

So I am making cupcakes for Evie's birthday Saturday and need a really good frosting recipe. The cupcakes are going to be chocolate and vanilla. Thanks!

Re: Frosting Recipes

  • I guess it depends on what you want and how much effort you want to put in.

You could do a flavor; strawberry, mocha, etc.

Do you want a classic buttercream? And Italian buttercream? Something totally different.

    Very simple vanilla: http://sweetcheeksinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2010/05/humming-bakery-vanilla-cupcakes.html

Bah. Blogger crashed on me. There is also a lemon Italian buttercream and a chocolate Italian buttercream on there.

  • Brianne's recommendations are all good.

I also like-- especially in the summer, because it's light-- a whipped cream, cream cheese, and sugar frosting. Those are the only ingredients (unless you add a flavour extract/oil).

  • I have a great chocolate fudge frosting recipe that I am happy to share:

    • 10 oz bittersweet chocolate
    • 1 lb unsalted butter, room temperature
    • 1 lb, 8 oz powdered sugar
    • 1/8 tsp salt
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 1/2 cup sour cream

Melt chocolate and cool until slightly warm.  Beat butter until really light and airy.  On low, gradually add sugar.  Add salt, vanilla and sour cream and mix until very smooth.  Add chocolate and whip until incorporated for a very dense frosting, or whip longer for a lighter frosting...either way, it's amazing!

  • If you do decide to flavor any butter cream recipe I highly recommend Almond flavoring. Its sooooo yummy :) That's what I use in my cakes.

My frosting recipe: (easy easy easy easy easy)

    5 c. confectioners sugar ( or all of 1 2lb bag)

    1 1/2 c. shortening

    2 tsp Almond Flavoring,

Enough water to make it the desired consistency.   About 1/4 cup, i start with a little less than that and mix in more as I need it, because it can get REALLY watery really fast..
