Does this sound promising, or is it pretty normal? I don't want to get my hopes up if this is a standard procedure. I got this from the head of the hiring team today & my interview was last week. This is the final round of the interviews & they'd originally said they'd make a decision this week. They've asked me several times when I could start & encouraged me to attend the event referenced below because the hosting organization will be a "key relationship" for the person selected for the position. My interview went REALLY well so anyway, just wondering what you guys think. TIA!

I wanted to update you on the status of our search for the ______ position. Due to a scheduling conflict, we have one more interview to conduct this week. As a result it will be sometime next week before we make a hiring decision.
In the meantime, we do need to go ahead and check your references. We will be contacting the references listed on your application later this week.
It was nice to see you the other night at the ______ event. I will keep you posted as our search progresses.

Re: Should I get my hopes up? (A little long)
They're checking references, which is good. But they have another interview, and if that person kicks butt, you may be SOL.

ETA: Now would be a good time to respond and reiterate how interested you are in the position.
