Re: Wildfires
With the number of fires actively burning, I don't think it's shocking. Actually I think it was worse 2 years ago in Brevard Co. & 4 years ago along I-10 in Lake City. Both of those years, I-10 & I-95 had to be shut down & people lost their homes.
Let's hope it doesn't get to that point in Jax.
Also, here's a pic I just took from my office:
Not good, but I think it could be way worse. Let's hope for a lot of rain sans lightning.
"My 101 List - Updating asap, I swear!
We had a storm the night before last but other than that not really. They said on the news last night that 98 was the really bad year.
Looks like la smog.
It rained pretty hard Monday night, but apparently the lightning started MORE fires.
Same here. Our warehouse guys are all sitting in the office unless a customer comes in, but it's been really sparse today.
Also, while it rained, the wind was horrible. It didn't rain nearly enough to put out any fires, but the high winds definitely fueled and spread them.
One of my really good friends works for Dept. of Forestry & is literally on the front lines fighting these things. I was talking to him the other night & he explained that the amount of water they'd have to use as "Plan B" is absolutely absurd & unjustifiable at this point since we already have watering restrictions & water shortages (specifically in S. Fla). With the drought & the dryness, they're just trying to contain the fires & keep them away from homes, businesses, etc. They maintain the perimeter to try to control the fire's growth, but that's all they can really do.
Its a sad game of lesser of two evils, but the water has to come from somewhere.
I heard the tropical storm stuff on the news too and couldn't believe it. It's just one of those situations that we have very little control over. Unfortunately rain in Florida usually comes with lightning and unfortunately it will undo any good the rain does. I'm sure the Dept. of Forestry and all others involved are doing everything they can. Hopefully things take a turn for the better soon and it gets better before it gets too much worse.
Oh, I completely get that. I don't actually think people are just sitting around not doing anything & waiting for a tropical storm. lol It was more of a reaction to the way it was stated on the news. You might not get the tropical storm & eventually it has to be put out somehow. I get that they're assessing the situation and doing the best they can with it for the time being.
