New Job, Want to Decorate

I just landed a new job within the same company, and I start on Monday. I have an office for the first time, and since it's the same building, I moved over some of my pictures, desk calendar, emergency snacks and favorite pens.

I want to hang my diploma and possible a piece of art in my new office. Should I do this tomorrow on my day off? Or should I wait to do this on my first day? I guess I'm just nervous of looking too excited, but I'm hoping that if I decorate it before I start working, I can spend most of my first day actually working. What do you guys think?

  • I'd do it gradually in your first week/month there.

  • wait a while until you see how other people have their offices decorated, and then do it gradually. If other people don't have diplomas hanging, it may be viewed as pretentious for you to hang yours (unless you're in the kind of role where you will have clients or patients or what have you in your office regularly and it is important to show credentials).

It's much more important to get a sense of how others do it first and blend in with the trend.

Spend your first week, etc, there trying to figure out how to do your job.  The time you'll spend decorating should be minimal, no matter when it is.  Don't use that as a justification to do it first.
