It's not good. Shelly saw her oncologist yesterday, and as we already suspected, the cancer in her liver is metastasized breast cancer. There is no cure for metastatic breast cancer. The best you can hope for is that continuous rounds of chemo can give you some extra time/years. So, she will be on chemo the rest of her life, however long that is.
She has her first round of chemo today. The oncologist said it has a 40% chance of working - that is, of extending her life, not curing it. We will know in a month or two if the chemo is working.
In the meantime, she has to let her kids know what is going on, to prepare them. How does a mother inform her children that she is going to die?
My mom and my sister Jill are in bad shape. I took off from work today and am going to head to South Jersey to be with all of them.
This sucks.

My God...
I am literally speechless. I'm sorry, honey.
I have no idea what to say other than that you & your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. How horrendously awful. ::HUGS::

My heart is just breaking for you, your sister and her family in reading this. I am so sorry to hear that her appointment didn't bring better news. Hopefully the chemo will help her a bit and will give her some strength and more time to enjoy her family. Your family is in all my thoughts and prayers, and I'm praying that God will give her and you strength through this difficult time. We are all here for you!

I can't think of anything to say. I'm so sorry and so sad for thise news.
My sister recently lost a good friend to cancer, and she had young children. I will tell you that she had so much fight in her (as it sounds like your sister does) that she lived far longer than any doctor ever expected. It doesn't make it any less heartbreaking, but the children did get an extra year or so with their mother. I hope the same for your family.

I know this is going to be a hard time for everyone, but maybe y'all can get together and do small scrapbooks of your favorite times with your sister to help remember and cherish those great memories. This might be very useful for the kids.
