What are you doing for the day?
Last year we had an itty-bitty baby so we didn't do much. I want to do something super fun this year. Of course the zoo is always a good time, but we go a lot. I want something unique.
I know we'd both love to pack a picnic and hike around for an hour or two before settling in for lunch. Any suggestions on good places to make that happen? Bonus points for beautiful views
Also, what are you giving as a gift?

Re: Let's talk Father's Day
My husband's parents belong to Urbandale Golf & Country Club, so the four of them (his parents, him and his brother) are going golfing in the morning. I also bought him two massages from the Signature Male Groupon last week. Our son is making gifts for him at day care and they have a special Father's Day snack Friday afternoon that we'll go to.
Still need to figure out what we're doing with my dad - probably just dinner or BBQ.
December, Ella's going camping? Wow!
We're going to Chicago for a family weekend that includes my stepson. We didn't go overboard on gifts this year, but I'm looking forward to quality family time.
Hey Ally, how far is this hike? I need to know that Maya would be able to make it back
We don't have any concrete plans yet. Maya is making something for him at school and they have a Daddy event on Friday. I am working on Saturday
On Sunday we will probably go to my parents house to grill out. I don't even know what I'm getting him yet. Probably something work-out related.
Neena is making these for daddy:

we too are going hiking either at Ledges or Saylorville and will do some geocaching too.
Got him the Groupon awhile back for a 12 lap drive around the Iowa Speedway - he loves racing. It is a combined father's day/birthday present.
Wow, I'm suprised at how many of you hike too.
What kind of carrier do you use? We have a hand me down hiking pack (I think it's evenflo) but I really want to get a newer, nicer one.

ERGO. We use it for 2-3 hours hikes. We also have a kelty carrier, but Neena doesn't like it as much.

I love going to Ledges State Park. It's a little drive to get there but so pretty and great for hiking and having a picnic.
No help on Father's Day gifts, I just got DH a t-shirt with a picture of C on it that says I love you Dad. Boring I know but he has everything else he could possible want. Maybe I'll add C's handprints to the back of the shirt once I get it but that's about it.
The girls are giving adam an annual father's day picture mug from costco, a dad's grilling book to go w/ his new grill, and a gift certificate for adam and his brother to play 18 holes at bos landon (i think he'll really appreciate some down time and time w/ his brother).
Molly, I have 2 kelty carriers that I want to sell. One is like an ergo and the other is a straight up hiking carrier that has the brackets to stand alone. Let me know if your interested.
This will be our first time hiking with B. We have a Kelty carrier like this:
I have a beco butterfly. I like it because you can take it off and put it on another person without having to take the baby out of it.
As far as father's day gifts, he's getting something for brewing beer (I really have no idea what it is, i just told him to order it and gave him my credit card! lol!) We are also attempting to do the dad picture like jennrs linked. Photoshoot #1 was a giant fail, so we shall see if I get it done tomorrow.
I have to work on Sunday. I feel really bad, but dh left me home alone on mother's day, so he could go to the Kentucky Derby. I told him we're even
What are we doing? My dad will be here, so we're going to entertain him at the house with my fun boys. I asked DH what he wants for a special meal and haven't gotten much out of him on that subject...hopefuly he'll get back to me on that.
We don't usually do much for each other, or for the day. It just never works out. It always ends up being a crappy day, or crappy attitudes.
Gift: I tried to do a D a d photo project, using the boys to form the letters, and it was a fail. So we're settling for a pencil holder made from a juice container, decorated in early toddler with handprints on it from both boys. I think DH uses a pencil at work... If not, he can love it anyway. I'm on a limited budget.
Hopefully we'll also be able to make some of his favorite cookies, Chocolate Crinkles on Friday, or today. My dad loves date bars, and I still need ingredients for that. We're good bakers over here.
