Baby Registry - thoughts?
So we have a Buy Buy Baby near us and the store is just awesome (as some of you know). I have no desire to register at BRU but I worry that people not in my area will be turned off by the fact that I didn't register at a B&M store that's easy for them to get to. Obviously they can shop online if they want to but I don't want to inconvenience people.
Thoughts? do what I want and make them deal with it how they want? register at an additional store to give them that option? register at Amazon as well because maybe people trust that more since they "know" it?
Re: Baby Registry - thoughts?
I reaaaaaally wanted to register at BBB... but no one lives anywhere near Nashua and since there are no others in the NE area, I changed it to BRU. I also registered at Amazon.
Amazon prices are better so I ended up switching a lot of the items to Amazon because of that anyway... 2 people bought from Amazon & 3 (?maybe more) people bought from BRU for my first shower. I think all BRU people went to the store for their purchases...
I had the same struggle though and I debated for a long time and finally gave up my BBB dream. Do what you want though! Your family & friends might be totally different!
I would look into registering at a second place - probably a physical store since a lot of people still like that tangible item immediately. Then they can go into either store or shop online at either store.
After your shower(s) you can switch around your registries and anything left you can move to BBB and then still get the completion discount.
We don't have a BBB within a reasonable distance, so I would feel frustrated if I was going to a shower where I'd want to bring a physical gift (I hate paying for shipping if I could go to a store, especially so I could see things in person). If you know that most of the people going to your shower have a BBB nearby, I wouldn't worry about it.
My thought, which was originally suggested to me by my cousins who hate being the center of attention as much as I do, is that while the shower is obviously for you, it's also for your guests. Try to make it easy on them. I hated the idea of registries in the first place (felt gift grabby to me) until one of them pointed out that people are going to buy you the stuff anyway, might as make it as convenient as possible. Obviously you're thinking about that already!
That being said, I know some people say that for baby showers many people don't even use the registries anyway, so it might be a moo point (yes, I just referenced Friends).

This totally depends on the views of your friends and family who will be going to the showers.
One of DH's cousins lives in Chicago and registered only at BBB, but had a shower in our area, where we don't have one. I had never heard of the store before that, actually. I ordered a gift online and had it sent to her house, which is no big deal for me. I took a printout of it to the shower. I know that my family would hate doing that and would just buy off registry if given that delemma, so I'd probably register somewhere they have here to please them.
I guess that's all to say that if you are ok with getting stuff off registry from people who want to go to a store, then just register at BBB. If you don't want a lot of off registry stuff, I'd try to register at a place most people can get to in addition to BBB.

My bff who was team green got barely anything off her registry though... I can't even remember what she got-- some outfits, a lot of blankets...
We ended up with a ton of clothes!
Haha, this is totally on my list of reasons for not wanting to find out the sex. Less chance for ugly outfits and everything in pink and blue.

Oh, you'll get the ugly outfits after the baby is born!

I guess it also depends on your family and friends. Mine apparently love registries.

If I was coming to your shower and you registered from BBB, (there isn't one here as far as I know) I wouldn't think anything of it. I'd order off the registry have it sent to me to bring to you or directly to you. I would think the majority of the people I'd invite would feel the same. The ones that wouldn't would be my moms friends/older family, etc. (and my older family probably wouldn't get me something off the registry anyway, it would be more personal gift they made possibly) I would maybe weigh it on that ratio of who you are inviting.
I will say, a lot of my friends register at babies r us and target, and they have the exact same thing on each registry. I normally buy from which ever I get the better price from, but I just wonder how much returning they are doing before/after baby comes from getting duplicates. Maybe its not that bad?
Yes, that's probably true. There is just no avoiding it, huh?

Love it!
Firstly, I say do what you want. But maybe register at another store too (BRU, Target, Amazon) if you're worried people might be annoyed. I've often wondered about this myself. I know BBB but I doubt most of my family would.
See, I think it might be OK. Most of Tim's family is not much farther from BBB than I am (they might half an hour) and my family is all from out of town anyway, so they'd likely be ordering online regardless. It's still something that worries me though because I don't want them to think I'm being annoying!
I also debated registering for some of the same bigger things at both places, to give people the option, but I'm not sure I want to deal with a bunch of returns if things end up getting bought from both places. Though I suppose I could also just use my registry stalking skills and try to keep up - like if the car seat gets bought at BRU, take it off at BBB.
and now I think I'm overthinking it.
good thing I have time to register still!
I wouldn't worry about it, then. Also, I can't imagine anyone thinking you're being annoying!
You're probably going to have to deal with returns regardless. People love to buy receiving blankets and those hooded towels!

If it were me....I would register at BBB like you want to, then do a smaller registry at a B&M, for instance Target, if you don't want to do BRU at all. If worse comes to worse, you get a bunch of Target giftcards then you'll have gc's for all your diapers for a year:)
I had a friend register at both BRU and this cute eco-friendly online store. She got stuff from both.
The closest BBB to here is in Denver (pretty sure I saw one when we were driving through last week), and I'm not to familiar with it, but if a close friend of mine registered there, I would probably use that as an excuse to go up to Denver for the day and pick out a gift in the store. But that's just me, and Colorado Springs shopping sucks so I use any excuse to get to Denver, IKEA opens next month and H&M in the fall, it will be like a real city!
We registered at BBB & BRU only because there's no BBB in StL and Chris's grandpa wanted a B&M store to go into. Otherwise we would have done BBB & Amazon.
I had to laugh about the real city comment!
I just looked up bbb and there is one in GA, about 40 min away from me. I'd make the trip! Now I will be on the look out next time I am in that area shopping and check out what the hype is about
we have so many fricking clothes. Our college players gave us a ton, and most didn't include gift receipts. I'm hoping if anyone brings clothes to our shower they're bigger or have receipts. We need actual baby gear, not more onsies. sigh.
There is a BBB, BRU and a Target near me. I would go with registering at 2 places that way you cover
People will get stuff on your registry or give you gift cards. Worst case-you can return things for what you want!
BTW-I know Target has a crappy return policy so I would avoid using them, if possible.
