lady wasn't there, but still.  How is it time for this already??

I know... DH finally gave me the ok on the date to sign up...

  • Um, is it bad that I really don't care to do the class?

I don't either... but I feel like DH does need to do hear some of the things... so that's more my incentive for it than not.

I'll be honest and say that I'm not sure I really need to do the class - I've done so much research on my own.  But, since it's through my hospital, I want to see what THEY have to say and I think Tim may benefit from it a little.

I totally laughed at the subject.  I bet it seems so surreal still. I don't think I'd get used to it until the doctor says "I see the head".

I didn't go.  I got the "textbook" from my friend who took the class and read it in about an hour.  There was really nothing in it that I didn't find in other baby books I read.  I did go to the breastfeeding and "baby care basics" class and I think I could have done without, only because I realized after the fact that the nurses and lactation consultants in the hospital after I delivered were so amazing and told me everything I needed to know, but I'm glad Brendan was there to connect with other new dads.

However, as a disclaimer, the main reason I skipped it was because several people who had taken it told me it was heavy on the anatomy and physiology, and since I teach that for a living I didn't feel that I needed to go.  If I was not a biologist/physiologist, I probably would have done the class.

  • Thanks for the insights ladies!

There is such a huge part of me that says, whatever they tell me during the class will NOT be going through my head during delivery and I highly trust my OB and the nursing staff at the hospital where I will be delivering at.  I already know that I want to try and labor without an epi, after that my plan is pretty much to do whatever they recommend, haha!

DH hates classes like that, he'll go if I tell him it would be good to go, but it's not something he'd look forward to or get excited about.

Ugh, I guess I need to decide soon.

Jules, I have a hard time conceptualizing how a breastfeeding class would be beneficial PRIOR to having the baby... but some people really encourage it so I think I'm going to suck it up. I still don't really see how it would help.

YES, this too.  I think a private conversation with an LC with my baby would be more beneficial and helpful.  I think I have read everything that could possibly be covered in that class!

I was skeptical too, but then I went and took DH. I actually learned alot and found it pretty informative. They encourage husbands to attend so they know how to help you.

  • I took the class when before having Dylan and in all honesty I thought it was a complete waste of time.  The only thing that I learned was not to rush if your water breaks at home (with your first baby) because labor usually takes forever.  So when my water broke I took the time to take a shower at home so that I felt refreshed when I got to the hospital.

I did want to take the breastfeeding class that was offered but it was all filled up when I went to sign up so instead I just talked to the nurses and LC at the hospital and I am not sure it helped since I gave up breast feeding after 3 weeks.
