In case anyone was wondering...

I've been peeling apples with a paring knife since I was about 10 years old (my mom hated it, but I never cut myself).  I've been able to peel the entire thing in one strip since I was about 16. I've never owned one of those apple corer/slicer things.

I'm still trying to figure out how like 3 people cut their KNIFE HAND.  I cut myself on my left hand all the time. But how to you cut the hand that you're holding your knife in?!

And you can sure as helll bet I wouldn't have taken a beautiful whole chicken and made freaking chicken salads for the judges.  Or shredded it in mixed with with rice.  kthxbai.

  • Wow! I'm impressed! I cheat! I have a fancy apple core/ slicer thingi from pampered chef. I not sure how someone can slice their finger with the knife hand....exceptionally long fingers?
  • Nooner- does this make you feel like the competition is fake and for entertainment moreso than to find actual talent?

I feel like it's 50/50.  Because it does seem like some of those people really are talented (shaggy haired seafood guy, the gal that cooks Indian food).  But yes, makes me feel like the other 50% is just BS for ratings and such.  Just like body sushi guy last week.  There's NO way that there was any purpose to that other than entertainment.

truthfully, i dont watch any of the food competition shows so i really dont know. but just from reading what you said above i get the impression its entertainment and not actually trying to find a "star".

MC isn't really about trying to find a star (although FN Star is).  It's about (well, the premise at least) finding a good at home cook who is good enough to win money and their own cookbook deal.  So you'd think (or I do at least), that it would be more entertaining to put all really good people in there and see who comes out on top.  I feel like more foodies would actually get into it, rather than just the general public.  I think that's why Top Chef is so successful, it really is some of the best of the best fighting it out.
