xp from mm: DC #1` for families
Re: xp from mm: DC #1` for families
I'm not a city person myself, but I can see how raising kids *in* DC would be awesome. I'm not sure about the school angle, although I've heard there are lots of great charter schools.
I'm also excited to have so many free things & great cultural opportunities to offer my kid. I really love Arlington (last years #`1, this year's #70
, too. For me, it's all the good things about DC w/out the things I don't like!
As far as big cities go, I feel like I could picture raising kids more in DC than NYC or some other large cities.
but, then again, DC proper is a small big city & I'm also more a burb person so that may be it.
First I'm pretty skeptical of the scoring related to these cities. The new "culture and charm" category seems to be why DC won, so I'm thinking it was worth more than some other categories.
Regardless, I think the DC area is a nice place to raise children. Lots of free stuff, museums, fairs, festivals, diverse group of people, etc. If we have kids and stay in the area, we'll be raising them in Arlington. Living in DC proper is not an option for us due to my husband owning firearms, some of which are banned by the District.
If we were made of money, I'd be more than happy to raise a family in a mansion in Georgetown :-)
And honestly, there are quite a few other neighborhoods I'd consider. I still kind of wish that we had bought a house in the city, but at the time it would have made DH's commute even more hellish than it was :-(
