Restaurant recommendation for client dinner?

I need to take a client and his wife and 14 year old daughter to dinner.

If it makes a difference, husband is very down to earth, works a construction type job and comes to all appointments in jeans or work clothes.  The wife and daughter recently moved to the U.S.  I've seen pictures when they go out for fancy occasions and they're dressed very nicely in a suit and dresses.  They're extremely health conscious.  They eat meat, I'm vegetarian.

Any ideas?  Wife is from eastern Europe so maybe a good Russian restaurant or something along those lines?

This is a lot of pressure!

Re: Restaurant recommendation for client dinner?

  • If they've recently moved from Eastern Europe, they may not be all that interested in eating at an Eastern European restaurant here... they might be more interested in trying new things--exploring the wide range of culinary options we have here, and/or being introduced to some nicer "American" food options...  I know a lot of international people tend to think it's all processed food, and sandwiches and hamburgers here... might be nice to introduce them to nicer American cuisine.

  • Good point littlemissflip.  Maybe I'll mention Moscow on the Hill and a more local option and feel them out.

  • Red Stag Supper Club, NE Mpls.

Bonus points: Nordeast was largely populated by Northern/Eastern Europeans back in the day, and much of the culture/history remains.... Kramarczyk's Deli, Surdyk's Liquors, Nye's, handfuls of Russian and Ukranian Orthodox churches.....

This is a great idea!  We just ate here a couple weeks ago, and it was awesome. (Local food sources, and some tasty vegetarian options too!)  It would be a nice opportunity to show off some of the Eastern European options in the area, but also give them a wonderful introduction to contemporary American/Midwestern cuisine!

ETA: Also, while the food itself is somewhat "upscale" the overall vibe of the place is pretty midwestern-relaxed (not fancy schmancy), so it might be a nice fit for the family that you described.

Oooh, that place looks perfect - the food, their philosophy, the history of the area!  Thank you!
