Cleaning granite countertops...

I just moved into a new place and have granite countertops for the first time.  I read they should be cleaned with water and to avoid harsh chemicals.  How do I disinfect these kitchen countertops and keep them clean without harming the stone?  TIA!

(Same question for marble tops in the bathroom I guess...cut me some slack, I just moved out of a vintage apartment I had for 5 years...my tub had feet for goodness sake...time to move up in the world ;-) )
