The Mohawk Valley Region
We just got back from our honeymoon and now we are settling into life in Montgomery County.
I'm from Long Island and he is from Utica, so we are both not too familiar with this area. He has already joined a band, and now I'm looking for some social activities and looking to make some friends here.
I'm interested in finding Yoga, Zumba, Theatre, Good Restaurants, and really any community activities.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello! I grew up in Johnstown. The area has a lot of great small town life but the area is not really a "busy" place. There are a handful of nicer restaurants. Mostly there are chains, it's a lower economic area. But it's got the small time town feel, well most of towns to. Friday night football games, parades and just a quieter, slower way of life. It's really nice and I miss it a lot.
If you want theater then come to Schenectady at Proctors, they have off broad way shows all year. Albany has a couple of bigger and smaller theater venues as well. Of course Schenectady and Albany are bigger so there is a lot more to do in the way of restaurants, classes and shopping.
Depending on where you live, I would be more than happy to meet up and show you around of what I know of the area. I'll gladly take you into Albany and those areas as well and show you around this way as well.

I'm from LI too - where were you from? (I grew up in Setauket)
I didn't even know where Montgomery County was, I looked it up.. since you are just west of Albany there is plenty to choose from.
Out by you is ADK Animaland and Herkimer Diamond Mine. In the summer there are lots of things like berry picking, fall is apples and pumpkins - one of my fave things about upstate. Not sure what kinds of activites you are into, but I think there is a lot of outdoor stuff your way (hikes, nature centers, parks, etc). I think just about any gym offers zumba, so I'd just start by finding a good gym first. I don't know about anything else specific to your area. I would check your town's website. There is also meetup.com which can be great for finding local groups (anything from book clubs to mommy's groups, maybe a music group etc).
