this is stupid, but i'm irritated. re:MIL

My MIL just called me to say that she wants to make Chris a cake for his birthday.

This makes me irrationally annoyed.

I know he's her son- but I've made him a birthday cake every year for the last few years. She KNOWS this. I've made her cakes, and BIL cakes as well.

She also wants to keep it a surprise.. wtf am I supposed to do with that?

Chris has already told me about 100x he wants me to make him a carrot cake.. which is what I was planning to do.

I guess I'll just tell him I don't have time and I'll go buy him some cupcakes from this awesome cupcake place.. but this makes me feel like a shittay wife.

I am leaving friday night and won't be back till saturday night and his mom also just said they are coming over Sunday - so I really don't have time..but still. I'm annoyed.

I know this is really, really stupid. but whatever. She's never shown any interest in making him a cake before.. hell, last year they didn't even come over for his birthday.

  • Sometimes I am glad I live so far away from family.  I just got back from a two week vacation from FL and I got my fill of family :)

Good luck and I totally understand how little things like that can get under your skin!

  • I would make the carrot cake too! But I don't think you can ever have too much cake! :-D

  • I would make a small carrot cake for just the two of you.

  • I say you should still make him a carrot cake especially he requested it. Let his mom make him a cake, you which cake he really wants anyway : )

  • I agree, if you have the time, still make him the carrot cake. I think if that happened to me I would tell my MIL "well ok, you can make him a cake, but I make him one every year so I'll still be baking one. Guess he'll have two!" Kinda annoying but it will work out :)
  • Well, he wants a carrot cake, so I told her that's what he wants - so that's what she's planning on making.

I can't go behind her back and make him one in addition to the one she is already making. My relationship with her is already very rocky, and I don't think that would be the best decision to make a cake knowing that she wants to make one.

    I appreciate all your suggestions.

I'm going to go to the cupcake shop and get a few cupcakes for us to have tonight & I'll just tell him I don't have time..
